Maths: Place Value:

To know the value of digits to 10,000,000. To read and write numbers up 10,000,000. To compare and order any integers. To round any integer. Looking at negative numbers.

Written Calculations: • To be able to use a written method for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. • To solve multi-step problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Multiplication: • To be able to identify factors, multiples and prime numbers. • To have a knowledge of square and cube numbers. • To know the rules of divisibility.

RE: In RE we will be exploring the question 'What matters most to Christians and Humanists? We will explore what makes the world a better place, what is a Humanist and we will consider the theme of peace.

English: This half term we will be reading 'War Horse' by Michael Morpurgo. Our writing will be based on the text and will conclude with the children composing their own animal adventure story. In grammar and sentence work we will begin by ensuring children can create well-structured sentences. We will move on to using conjunctions correctly in sentences, the use of adverbials and understanding grammatical terms.

Year 6 Autumn 1: ‘The Great War’ Science: In Science, we will be studying the topic of electricity including learning about electrical components, how to make simple circuits, the history of electricity and we will carry out a scientific investigation into the brightness of bulbs.

Reading: The children will work on their retrieval skills, understanding vocabulary and phrases, how to infer from the text and how to use evidence to support inferences. They will read a wide range of texts and extracts across different themes.
