Year 1
Autumn 1: This is Me!
In Year 1, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children in sharing this new knowledge with their families. Please choose and complete at least 6 activities from the grid over the course of the half-term. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc).
We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work in class and expect homework tasks to be completed to the same standard. Please refrain from using felt tip pens in the homework book, as these often bleed through to multiple pages. We can’t wait to see your work!
Don’t forget to read your Phonics books at home 3 times a week, as well as sharing other stories with people in your family. We would also like to encourage the children to practise their Number Bonds to 10 and Red Words with an adult at home wherever possible.
The Body:
How many parts of the body can you name? Perhaps you could write a list of the parts, or draw and label a picture of a body.

The Five Senses:
Go on a senses walk. Draw, write, or take photographs of the things that you can see, hear, smell, taste and touch along the way.
Maths:
Practice counting forward and back within the 0 – 20 range, starting and stopping at any number. Can you write any of the numbers that you say? Can you count out objects to match the numbers?
My Family
Find out some more information about the people in your house –How old are they? Where do they live? What job do they do? You might choose to draw a picture of these, or bring in some photos.
Handwriting:
Practice writing the letters of the alphabet, focussing on the correct formation. There is a letter formation card attached to this document. This could be done using different media, pencils, paint, felt tips etc, or even in a tray of sand using your finger.
Fruit and Vegetables:
We will be learning about fruit and vegetables and will taste a range of both. Use some of your favourite fruits to make a fruit kebab, or even some vegetables to make soup.
Children’s Choice:
Spend some time with your family doing something you enjoy. This could be going on a walk, a day out, playing a game, baking, or being creative.
Growing in Our World:
Share some photographs/ pictures of babies. Compare how you are different to a baby. What can you do now that you couldn’t do when you were a baby?
Writing:
Write about your favourite character. This could be from a programme, a film, or your favourite book.

Red Words: (5 a week to be sent home in your child’s Reading diary)
