Personal, Social & Emotional Development: This half term we will place a large focus on transition and supporting our older children through discussions, visits and stories. We will talk about feelings and emotions around periods of change. We will continue to focus on resolving conflicts with peers and gaining confidence through friendships.
Physical Development: Children will continue to practise their fine motor skills, focussing on scissor skills and pencil control with a focus on developing a comfortable grip. We will spend time outdoors with lots of opportunities to support the children in developing gross motor skills where we will practise ready for sports day. West Lancashire Coaches take PE twice a week.
Literacy: We will enjoy sharing a range of books including Nature Trail, Stanley’s Stick and The Colour Monster goes to school. In phonics some children will continue to recognise and write initial sounds and we will play games to focus on hearing these sounds in words and focus on orally blending words as well as exposing children to rhyme. We will continue to place a greater emphasis on name writing.
Maths: Continuing with matching a set of objects to their numeral with lots of exposure to counting forwards and backwards. Children will be considering what comes before an after a number and looking at how numbers can be made. They will also revisit 2D shape and repeating patterns.
Nursery Summer 2: Summer/Transition
Communication & Language: Children will talk with adults and friends, one to one and in small groups. Children will be encouraged to take part in Show & Tell with a focus on using longer sentences. We will continue to place an emphasis on developing children’s vocabulary and understanding of ‘why’ questions.
Understanding the world
:
Children will learn about the season of summer, as well as becoming familiar with the people who help us in school. Children will use sand and water play to explore weights and measure and be aware of the changes in nature linked to the season. Our baking sessions enable children to explore, identify and describe how ingredients change.

Expressive Arts: Small world and role play areas are continuously available, children always have access to the home corner. Additional role-play opportunities will include an ice cream shop. We will continue to provide opportunities for children to explore a variety of art and craft projects.
RE: Use opportunities, such as charity days, to discuss similarities and differences between countries and/or cultures.
