EARLY YEARS QUALITY MARK

At Churchtown, we are very proud of our Quality Mark as it recognises the commitment of our strong team to the provision of high quality Early Years Education

NURSERY CURRICULUM

The Foundation Stage

UNIQUE CHILD

Provide a stimulating environment by planning high quality, purposeful play opportunities, which are based on children’s interests.

INDEPENDENT LEARNERS

Enable children to become independent learners and develop the skills to co-operate, share, negotiate and work as a team.

POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

Develop close partnerships where parents and practitioners work together and learn from each other in order to share information and celebrate children’s achievements.

ENABLING ENVIRONMENTS

Provide a nurturing, caring environment, where children feel safe, happy and valued as individuals.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Allow children time to explore, experiment and consolidate their learning through hands on opportunities in a safe environment, where they are able to achieve and reach their potential.

EARLY YEARS FAMILY

We are a big family in Early Years and we foster a positive attitude towards school. Our Nursery children have the opportunity to mix with children and staff in Reception, and attend Early Years assemblies and whole school celebrations in church.  Our pupils are happy and secure and confident members of our school.

LEARNING JOURNEYS

In Nursery, Early Years staff will complete a personalised and unique learning journey for your child, which you can access from home. Staff will add photos and observations to keep you informed of your child's day and specific learning experiences.  You have the ability to comment on these as well as add your own photographs from home life to share with us in school.

REGGIO EMILIA APPROACH

In February 2018, 14 members of the Early Years Team travelled to Bologna, Italy to attend a training course on “Creative Approaches to Early Years Education.”

We have adopted this approach here at Churchtown and has had such a positive impact.  Environments have been adapted and teaching strategies altered, including an increased focus on speaking and listening, open ended learning and physical development. This approach fits perfectly with the new Early Years Framework which was introduced in September 2021.
