Year 3
Half-term: Summer 2
In Year 3, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children to share this new knowledge with their families. The activities chosen below are directly relevant to the Year 3 curriculum in school.
Please choose and complete at least 6 activities from the grid over the course of the halfterm. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc) where appropriate We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of your ability.
As part of our weekly homework offer in Year 3:
1. Please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.
2. We would also like your child to continue to practise their times tables at home
3. To support with our reading and writing work in school, we will now start to send home each week a spelling rule and linked words so you are aware of what is being covered as part of our work in school. This rule will be taught and practised throughout the following week in school and we wanted to send this home so, where possible, children can practise this at home. Children will have the chance to learn, practise and apply this rule in class through a range of activities and quizzes as part of our RWI spelling programme.
Thank you for your continued support.
Speaking and Listening
In preparation for our class assemblies, please learn your lines and lyrics to the songs we will be singing.

Data Handling
Later this half term we will be focussing on data handling. Try carrying out a survey with family and friends. Some ideas for your survey are:
Favourite football teams
Favourite crisp flavour
Favourite animal
Then turn your data into a bar chart or pictogram.
Vikings
We are learning about the Vikings this half term. Can you design your own Viking warrior shield? If you prefer, you could design or make your own Viking jewellery. Who would your jewellery be for?
Reading
The 50 word challenge! Can you summarise your favourite book in less than 50 words? Remember you still need to include the main ideas of the story but it must be in 50 words or less- good luck!
Science
We will be exploring the skeleton and muscles in science this half term. Build your own skeleton using cotton buds or why not get outdoors and find some branches and twigs to create your skeleton? Can you name the different bones?
Secret Messages
The Vikings used letters called runes. Research the rune alphabet and write your own secret message for your teacher to decode!

Time
Our first unit in Maths this half term is time. Please spend some time learning how to tell the time from an analogue and digital clock. Please also learn the months of the year and how many days are in each month.
PHSE
We will be discussing fire safety in our PHSE lessons. Create a poster about fire safety for either in the home, at school or for the wider community.

Spanish
This half term’s focus is identifying fruits in Spanish. Write down what fruit you have at home in Spanish. You could write a list on your weekly shopping list of the fruit you need in Spanish. Or try identifying fruit in the supermarket in Spanish.
