Reception
Half-term: Summer 2
Theme: Once Upon a Time
In EYFS, we believe that this is the start of our journey where we build relationships with yourselves as a family. As part of this relationship, we have provided a new menu of suggested learning activities for your child to complete with you during this half term. These activities can be brought back into school and shared as part of ‘show and tell’ sessions, where we can encourage children to communicate in front of their peers as part of our drive to improve children’s speaking and listening at an early age. These are not compulsory but will support your child’s learning and development in school & we would appreciate your support.
Children in Nursery and Reception will also bring home a library book each week to share at home with an adult. As you will appreciate, reading is fundamental to a child’s progress in all areas of the curriculum and therefore we expect all children to be reading at home regularly with an adult each week. Reception children will bring a reading book home once they have learnt the first set of sounds. This will be a Sound Blending book and will match the sounds they have already been taught in school. Children should read this book daily to an adult at home. Once they can read this book confidently, they will move on to the next book.
We can’t wait to see your work!
Reading together
Enjoy sharing lots of story books with your child at home. This is the best way to help develop your child’s ever-increasing vocabulary and help them become familiar with the “language of stories”. Try to read your child’s reading book daily, as they become more confident with their blending, their reading will start to become more fluent.
Transition time
Draw a picture of yourself for your next teacher. Write a few sentences all about you. What do you like, what don’t you like? Who are your friends? What are you good at? Don’t forget to use the sounds you know to help you
Carrot Tops
Ask your grown up to give you the top of carrot. Put it on a soucer of water and watch what happens over the coming days. Give it a face and take a photo. Does it work with any other vegetables?
Counting
How far can you count forwards? How well can you count backwards...can you start at 5, can you start at 10, how about 15, 20 or even more. Have a practise at home and then come and show your teacher and friends in school
Visit the Botanic Gardens
There is a family fun day in the Botanic Gardens on Sunday 16th June. Why not go along and enjoy the fun activities on offer. Take some photos and put them on Seesaw to show your class and teacher.
Minibeast Safari
Delve deep into the nooks and crannies of your garden and find out what lives there. Think about what it likes to eat and why does it live where it lives.
Answer the Question Goldilocks and three bears enjoy porridge for their breakfast. What is your favourite breakfast and why? You could draw a picture or take a photo of you eating your breakfast.
Freezing!
Put some small toys or objects in a container of water and put it in the freezer. Once it has frozen, think about how you can release the objects.
Prepare a healthy picnic to enjoy in the garden or the park on a sunny day. Write a shopping list for the things you might need.
