Today we have celebrated the King’s Coronation in school, discussing in Praise Assembly how London has been preparing for the event over the last 8 months. The school choir joined us to lead us in the National Anthem, which they have been rehearsing in their after-school club.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the King’s Banquet; a BIG thank you to our delightful kitchen staff and team of midday supervisors who created a memorable lunchtime experience for the children, decorating the dining halls and providing delicious food.
Another event to celebrate this week is the Early Years educational visit to Martin Mere. Our youngest children displayed exceptional behaviour and thoroughly enjoyed their day out. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers and parent helpers who made this day possible. You ensured memories were built for the children based on first hand experiences.

The village is hosting The King’s Feast Street Party on Sunday from 2pm-8pm; this will be a great event. Please support the local community by attending if you can, however, whatever your plans this weekend, enjoy this momentous occasion. Mrs Payne

SKILLS FOR LIFE
This half term, the value that Churchtown is developing is Skills for Life. At the end of the half term, value champions will be nominated for each class.

Our School Eco Club Champions are starting to look at their actions for ‘Biodiversity’

Here are some interesting facts:
➢ About one million plant and animal species face the threat of extinction.
➢ Biodiversity supports human and societal needs, including food and nutrition security, energy, development of medicines and pharmaceuticals and freshwater.

BUDDY ASSEMBLY GROUPS
Each week in the ‘Friday Praise Assembly’ we have been checking the totals of the Buddy assembly groups. Classes and children gain points for super behaviour.
The Eco Champions at Churchtown have been working really hard to build awareness of using single use plastics and the impact that is having in our oceans.

Following on from their successful beach clean, the children would like to use single use plastics (bottle tops) to create a spectacular collage of our ocean. We would really appreciate it if you can start collecting PLASTIC BOTTLE TOPS of different colours (please no metal or dirty ones) and send these into school to sort by the Eco Champions.

They would also like to invite your child to take part in a competition. (This is voluntary. If your child is interested then they can collect a design sheet from their teacher or from Mrs Stalker (Year 3 teacher). They need to draw a picture of a sea creature and send this in to their class teacher by Friday 26th May 2023 A winning entry will then be chosen from each year group and their entry will be created out of bottle tops on our art display! The winning entries will be announced in assembly after the May half-term.

Year 1 Classes

Year 1’s assembly was rudely interrupted this morning by the discovery of a mysterious suitcase. Upon closer inspection, the children discovered the suitcase was full of giant-sized items and they also heard some very loud footsteps! The children will now become detectives, trying to figure out who the suitcase belongs to and why it is here!
