Food Preparation and Nutrition

Duration: 1hour 30 minutes Format: 20 multiple choice questions

Students will choose ONE of these essay questions to respond to. They will have a choice of a character or theme question.

The assessment will only cover the characters and themes that students have read about so far in Chapters 1-3.  Students will need knowledge about the main characters they have read about so far, their behaviour, their relationships and their actions. (George, Lennie, Candy, Curley, Curley’s Wife, Crooks)  Students will also need knowledge of the big ideas that John Steinbeck is exploring especially in relationship to the context of 1930s America.

The skills tested in this assessment are: a. The ability to make clear points about what students have read b. The ability to use examples, quotations or references to support ideas c. The ability to comment on, with the correct subject terminology, the writer’s methods (language and structure) that John Steinbeck uses to present his characters and themes. d. The ability to explore the effects that a writer’s methods have on the reader. e. The ability to link the characters and themes in the story to wider ideas about people and the world in which they live.
