ENRICHMENT We have a commitment to extra-curricular activities and high quality opportunities outside of the usual curriculum.

These activities are an important and exciting feature of school life and contribute enormously to our students’ academic and social development.

The vast majority of extra-curricular provision and educational visits are provided voluntarily by teaching and support staff as a commitment to our young people.

Please encourage your child to embrace the vast array of opportunities available to them at Chorlton High School by attending at least one activity.

ELE DAYS Our ELE (Extended Learning Experience) days are an enrichment opportunity for students to spend the day developing new skills, work with professionals and a chance to be creative in a safe and supportive environment.

We are very excited to welcome back our Autumn ELE after the last two years and staff have planned a range of fun, enriching experiences for our students.

“Be creative and shoot for the stars” Year 7 students will work with Team Arts and Team Technology exploring the Day of the dead festival. They will have an opportunity to work with professional artists and share performance work in the Blue Box Theatre.

“I embrace life and prepare to succeed” Year 8 will explore the weird and wonderful world of Science and have an opportunity to take part in Science experiments, meet professionals and crack complex codes.

“I am prepared for the future” Year 9 will focus on developing their mental fitness as well as building confidence and resilience through practical activities and creative art sessions.

“I respect myself, my school and my community” Year 10 will explore their local, national and global community through a range of inspiring sessions looking at the Holocaust and the current refugee crisis around the world.

“I am motivated and resilient” Year 11 will work with Team Maths at revision skills and techniques that will support their upcoming college entry exams. Students will develop their resilience with an afternoon focused on wellbeing and mental fitness.

MATHS CIPHER CHALLENGE CLUB The University of Southampton’s Cipher Challenge Competition starts in October, and we are looking to enter several teams into the code breaking competition.

You need to be willing to work as a member of a team and determined enough to try and try again until the cipher is cracked each week.

We meet up on Thursdays starting the 22nd of September for some Cipher training before the Competition starts tin October to train on the theory of Cipher cracking and learn techniques that may be helpful in the competition.

Once the Challenge starts, we wait for the University to send us the weekly cipher and begin discussing strategies to solve it. Once the challenges get harder, we need to use computers to help us and often take the problems home, working late into the evening to score maximum points.
