HOLIDAYS IN SCHOOL TIME
Holidays taken during term time will be classed as unauthorised absence, unless there are exceptional circumstances which have been approved by the Head of School in advance.
WRAP AROUND CARE
We work with several fantastic independent providers for wrap around care provision. Details of all our wrap around care partners can be found on our website.
Regular attendance at school is vital to help your child achieve and get the best possible start in life. There are 30 days in a six week half term and if your child has one and a half days off school, their attendance will be 95%.
Children’s attendance is recorded and monitored and placed into one of the below traffic light bands. If we have concerns regarding your childs attendance, we will contact you to discuss it further.
96% - 100% Well Done
91% - 95% Risk of underachievement
85% - 90% Serious risk of underachievement
Below 84% Serious cause for concern and underachievement.
If your child cannot attend school, you must report their absence by contacting the school on 01925 712554, by using the report absence option on the Parent Mail App or by emailing office@chapelfordvillageprimary.co.uk
All medical appointments should take place outside of school hours so your child does not miss any learning. If appointment times are not negotiable, the expectation is for children to attend school on the day of the appointment and leave site only for the required amount of time. Children will not be allowed to leave site without being collected by their parent or carer.
To inform us about time out of school for medical appointments, please contact the school office with a medical letter.
Please make staff aware of who will be regularly collecting your child. Should there be a change in the person collecting your child, you must inform your child’s class teacher on the day in person or by email.
We are however, aware that there are times when you could be delayed; in this instance, please telephone the school as soon as possible so that we know that someone will arrive shortly. Should children be left at school after pickup time, we will use the contact information to ring you. If someone comes to collect your child that we haven’t seen before and we haven’t received a message to inform us, we will contact parents and any names on the contact list to get confirmation.
Please be patient with us over the first half term while we get used to all the new faces at home time. We will only send out children when we see the adult who is picking them up. Our main priority is sending the children home safely and over the first few weeks it may take a little longer until we become familiar with the adults collecting.
All children must be collected by an adult. Children in Year 5 and 6 are able to walk home alone with written permission only. Contact the school office if you want to authorise this arrangement. Please note that older siblings are not permitted to take younger siblings home under any circumstances.
This also applies to after school clubs and activities outside of the school day.
Only pupils in Year 5 and 6 are permitted to bring a mobile phone to school to support safety issues if they come to school independently. Phones should be named and handed into the class teacher at the beginning of the day and collected at the end of the day. If you want your child to bring a phone it is on the understanding that you agree with the Acceptable Use of a Mobile Phone Statement which will be issued to you. Children in Reception through to Year 4 are not permitted to bring a mobile phone into school.
This also applies to after school clubs and activities outside of the school day.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children. All our staff are committed to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of our children is paramount.
We fulfil our legal obligations under the Children Act 1989 and the Education Act 2002 and in addition to these legal responsibilities, we believe in our pastoral duty towards our children and their right to be protected from harm.
We aim to provide the best possible learning opportunities by having a friendly, healthy and safe environment that caters for and respects all our children’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. In safeguarding our children, we are committed to ensuring that our children’s needs are of utmost importance.
All our Child Protection & Safeguarding policies and procedures follow the Department for Education guidance (Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018; Keeping Children Safe in Education, 2023).
Our safeguarding procedures are regularly reviewed and guided by our Director of Safeguarding & People Services at Omega Multi-Academy Trust and our Lead Safeguarding Governor.
Our website offers a plethora of information which details our Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy in full, Early Help Information, Family Support Links and E-Safety guidance, amongst others.
Our dedicated Safeguarding Team is readily available to address any concerns or worries you have regarding child protection so please contact us if necessary.
Children at Chapelford wear a school uniform and we believe this builds a close identity with the school and plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of our school. Our uniform is appropriate wear for the activities of the classroom and offers a high standard and appearance within the school. Out full Uniform Policy is available to read on our website.
Our uniform suppliers: Warrington Schoolwear Shop alphaschoolwear.com

The school holds second-hand school uniforms for parents to access if necessary. These uniforms are available upon request, with applications made through the school. Families who qualify for School Uniform Assistance Scheme can use assistance vouchers at the suppliers listed above. Pre-loved uniforms are also available from Warrington Foodbank.
It is healthy and hygienic for children to change for P.E. lessons, so all children need to have a P.E. kit, which should be kept in school at all times, in a drawstring type bag. It would be useful, especially in the Early Years classes, to include spare underwear and socks to help us with any accidents. P.E. kits will be sent home each half term so they can be washed and returned for the start of the next half term.
A single earring in the lobe of each ear i.e. a single pair of small studs may be worn. These must be covered with tape during P.E. sessions to comply with Health and Safety regulations. We request parents provide the tape to cover earrings or children remove earrings themselves for the purpose of physical activity. No other jewellery is permitted to be worn by children.
All clothing and footwear must be clearly labelled with their name. The school cannot be held responsible for lost items of school clothing. Any lost clothing is be taken to the lost property box in each year group. All lost property is retained for one week.
Full details about all of our suppliers, including how to get help with uniform costs and details of pre-loved uniform sales and our uniform policy can be found on our website.

We take part in The School Fruit and Vegtable Scheme which encourages children to eat a piece of fruit or veg every day in an attempt to promote lifelong healthy eating. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are offered a free piece of fresh fruit or vegetable daily. Children in Years 3 to 6 are able to order a choice of snack which must be paid for via Parent Pay, or they can bring their own healthy snack from home for breaktimes.
All children have access to fresh drinking water. Your child will require a water bottle in school every day (water bottles are available from school at a cost of £2.00). This is to ensure your child has enough fluid during the day to help their brains work well. Please ensure your child’s name is clearly visible on their water bottle at all times. It is our school policy that children are to have water in their bottles and not juice or fizzy drinks.
Children can choose from a daily hot dinner or a packed lunch. You may choose from the following arrangements:
• Cold packed lunch brought to school in a named lunch box.
• Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a universal infant free school meal provided by the school kitchen.
• Children in Years 3 to 6 can order a hot dinner from the school canteen, this must be paid for via Parent Pay.
• Children in Years 3 to 6 may be eligible for free school meals if you receive certain benefits. You can check your eligibility on the school meals section of our website.
If you would like your child to stay for school dinners and they require a specific meal, for example: religious reasons, food intolerance, allergy, celiac, vegetarian etc, please inform the school office.
During lunch, we have a range of adult led and independent activities including tabletennis, swingball, target games, music and chillout areas. Our student council are actively involved all areas of school life and help design our lunchtime provision.

There are several children in school who have an allergic reaction to peanuts which can be extremely serious.
We ask for your help with this matter by not using peanut butter or Nutella as a filling for any sandwiches or allowing children to bring peanuts into school. This includes items such as M&M’s, Snickers, birthday cakes and sweets that also contain peanuts.
As part of our drive for National Healthy School’s status we encourage that children refrain from bringing in sweets and cakes for their birthday. This ensures that children with allergies are not subjected to any dangers within school and we are encouraging a healthy diet.
If your child cannot attend school you must report their absence by contacting the school on 01925 712554 or by using the report absence option on the ParentMail App.
Children who are unwell and are suffering from infectious conditions should be kept at home until they have fully recovered (48 hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea).
If your child suffers from a chronic condition that requires medication e.g. asthma, epilepsy, etc, please inform the school office so that arrangements for administering medication can be made. A medicine form will need to be completed and this can be obtained from the school office.
School staff can only administer prescription medicine that requires four or more doses per day. All other medicines should be taken at home.
If your child becomes unwell during school time, we may need to contact you. Please ensure that you give work-place telephone numbers and that these are updated when appropriate.
Regular communication between parents and teaching staff is one of the most positive ways in which children can be supported through their school years and we seek to encourage this dialogue wherever possible.
We use ParentMail to communicate with our parents and carers. The app can be used for bookings and payment for extra curricular clubs, school trips, purchases of school book bags, water bottles, PE bags, and reporting children’s absence (you will be sent a link to set up an account during your child’s first week in school).
You will also receive letters and texts to keep you informed about events in school, including newsletters which are specifically designed to inform you of what will be happening within our school.
We hope you will always feel comfortable about approaching staff with any problems or queries but we do ask that you respect that priority must be given to the children at the beginning of the day. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please make an appointment to do so or see them at the end of the school day. You will be given a direct email address to your child’s class teacher and we encourage you to use this as a contact method.
There are formal opportunities for parent-teacher consultations throughout the year. You will be able to talk about your child’s progress and discuss ways in which you can help them to develop further. These parent teacher consultations take place once during the autumn term and once during the spring term. An individual written report is sent home at the end of the school year in the summer term, giving information about your child’s academic progress and personal development. We do have an open-door policy and if you do have any concerns we can always arrange a time one evening after school if necessary.
At Chapelford we have a diverse range of families and 22 different languages that are spoken through the school. We use our website to provide information to support both pupils and families to learn to speak English. On our website you will find resources for both children and parents to support your child’s educational journey and our EAL Policy.
If you require translation or support with any school documentation please contact the school office, who can advise.

At Chapelford Village Primary School we believe that every child has the right to an inclusive and diverse curriculum that is ambitious and that will equip children with the knowledge that they need to be successful in life. As a school, we monitor, evaluate and review our curriculum to enable us to design it to ensure that children are achieving depth to their learning which enables them to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding in all subjects.
Our Signature Curriculum brings together English and Maths with other areas of our curriculum, including Science, Geography, History, Art, Design Technology and elements of Religious Education. We have designed our Signature Curriculum to ensure that pupil’s interests are developed through enquiry in order that they deliver every aspect of the National Curriculum on an annual basis in each year group.
If you would like to find out more about our Signature Curriculum, please visit the Year Group pages on our school website or speak to your child’s class teacher.
Mathematics is a journey that requires exploration, practice, and application over time. Children should aim to develop a deep conceptual understanding of each topic and build upon it as they progress. To support their confidence and ability in mathematics we provide a high-quality and challenging curriculum. We use a variety of engaging resources and games to stimulate learning, offer diverse mathematical opportunities to foster connections and greater depth of understanding and encourage children to take risks without fear. Our goal is to fully develop independent learners with inquisitive minds, secure mathematical foundations, and a drive for self-improvement.
Maths is taught daily with one lesson each week dedicated to fluency and application of basic skills from which to build on in other areas of maths. Times tables are introduced in Year 2 with the aim that all pupils are able to recall all twelve times tables by the end of Year 4.
You can support your child at home, with their maths skills by:
• Playing board games involving counting on and back
• Counting objects or weighing produce in the supermarket
• Playing shop at home or involving your child in working out change, price reductions and offers or paying with coins for low cost items
• Learning to tell the time on an analogue and digital clock and working out how many minutes to get somewhere, how long an event lasts or using bus or train timetables to plan a journey
• Baking or cooking as this a great way to incorporate maths as there are lots of opportunities to weigh, count and use time
• Knowing number bonds to 10 and associated facts i.e. 7 + 3 = 10 therefore 70 + 30 = 100
Homework is shared weekly by the class teacher and you are welcome to share concerns or ask for advice, so please always speak with your child’s class teacher if you would like support to help your child’s maths learning.
In our school, we endeavour to create and flourish a love of reading. In order to do this, we strive to ensure our reading areas are a place where children want to go and read, with comfy beanbags, a range of books and a celebration of authors.
In every classroom children will find a basket of books matched to their reading ability, which include a wide range of genres. This allows every child to be able to pick a book that they will enjoy, but also will challenge them at the appropriate level. In addition to this, there are a range of books available for reading for pleasure including: fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Furthermore, every half term, an author is chosen for each year group and is someone who the children can learn about and be inspired by. The author is celebrated within the reading area, with a range of their books available to read.
We ensure that a range of topics and information books are incorporated into other areas of the curriculum such as Geography and History. This encourages children to further broaden their knowledge and reading of a particular topic or subject area. Classroom reading environments are printrich and stimulating with a wide range of books displayed creatively and imaginatively. Working walls display rich and varied vocabulary. Reading areas display recommended books, author studies and prompts to support children to read.
We ask parents to support children’s reading to develop a passion that will last a lifetime. Children should be encouraged to read at least five times a week at home, with an adult, or independently as they progress through the year groups.
You will be asked to comment and sign your child’s reading diary and each week, teachers collate who has read at least five times The percentage of readers in each class for that week will be shared on classroom windows and in the newsletter. Rewards are earned each week for challenges set in each key stage for the highest percentage of children who have read at least five times and had their reading record signed.
Home learning will also include comprehension tasks, spelling, grammar and maths tasks which are set throughout each term. Please support your child by organising suitable times to complete home learning tasks so they are finished in a timely manner.
The benefit of home learning is to present opportunities to revisit and practise activities which children should all be able to complete independently, with perhaps a little encouragement at times.
We have a full ‘Home Learning Support’ section on our website which gives details on what your child should be learning at home, in each year group.
chapelfordvillageprimary.co.uk/curriculum/home-learning-support
You will also have access to a variety of online learning tools that can support with home learning. You will be sent details of how to access these where relevant.
Some of the credible schemes we use are:
After school clubs promote further development of children’s education. We aim to offer our children extra opportunities through a provision delivered by school staff and professional, external providers. At Chapelford we have a wide variety of after school clubs that run from Monday to Thursday. We offer sporting, academic and creative clubs which are regularly reviewed to make sure we are catering for all of our children.
Our extra curricular clubs are booked through ParentMail. You will recieve an email informing you of clubs every term and how to book.
If there are any clubs you would like to see added to our programme, please email office@chapelfordvillageprimary.co.uk with your suggestions.
We are passionate about providing our children with wonderful opportunities to explore, learn and grow. Through our educational visits and trips we aim to inspire curiosity, ignite imaginations and create lasting memories. We believe that these experiences contribute to the holistic development of our children, nurturing their academic, social, moral, spiritual, and cultural identities.
Learning outside the classroom is an integral part of our curriculum and we are proud to provide a diverse selection of educational visits for all year groups. We organise day trips to local attractions such as zoos, farms, theatres, and museums, allowing children to explore and learn in a fun and interactive way. These excursions provide valuable real-world experiences that complement classroom learning.
In addition to day trips, we offer overnight residential trips for Years 2 through to Year 6. These longer adventures take us further afield, giving children the opportunity to immerse themselves in new environments. Some of the remarkable places we have visited include Crosby Hall, Fox Hall, Tattenhall, Llandudno, London, and Robinwood. Each trip is carefully designed to offer unique learning experiences and foster personal growth.
Our goal is to offer a wide range of opportunities so that by the time your child is ready to move on to the next stage of their education, they will have experienced a multitude of enriching activities. We have set a target for each child to experience 70 different activities before Year 7. Some of the exciting activities include climbing a mountain, learning how to swim, caring for a pet, meeting an author, cooking and exploring caves. By participating in these diverse activities, children broaden their horizons, develop new talents and gain confidence in their abilities.
Throughout the year you will be informed about the opportunites avalible for your child in each Year Group.
We recognise our responsibility for ensuring all children with additional needs achieve their full potential and have an inclusive ethos for all members of our school community. Chapelford is a barrier free school and we constantly monitor the needs of our children and families to ensure potential obstacles to learning and/or physical access are minimised.
Mrs McDavid is the Lead Teacher for Inclusion and is a qualified SENDCO with many years experience. In her role she works with class teachers to make adjustments for children, adapting styles of teaching and incorporating advice from professional agencies so we can provide the best education for each individual child to ensure they receive the support and their learning needs are met and fulfilled.
We have a clear approach to identifying and responding to SEND and recognise that early identification and effective provision improves longterm outcomes for our children.
We have a dedicated section on our website that details the provision on offer to children with SEND.

Our school Bullying Pledge is:
“At Chapelford Village Primary we believe that everybody has the right to live in a community where they feel safe, included, valued and accepted regardless of their differences. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. We don’t suffer in silence we always tell somebody. We are kind to everyone and we respect and love each other’s differences. We appreciate diversity. We stand up against bullying wherever and whenever we see it. Hate crime isn’t accepted and we understand the importance of tackling this within our community.”
We aim to address and challenge all types of bullying behaviour, in all forms, and encourage respectful behaviour at all times. We aim for all of our staff to recognise and respond to bullying whenever it is encountered. As a school we show zero tolerance to bullying when it is identified always taking into full account the varying needs of the children across the school.
If bullying does occur, all children should be able to tell us and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively.
We are a TELLING school using the acronym STOP (start telling other people) which means that anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell staff.
Our Anti-Bullying Policy is detailed in full on our website with details of our aims, objectives and definition of bullying.
Our vision remains rooted in our school ethos and values: Learn, Achieve, Respect.
We aim to be an exceptional school with our children at the core of everything we do. We believe that our school is a community and that it is vitally important that everyone is safe and happy within it. We provide an environment in which our children are secure, with equal opportunities for all.
We set high expectations for both staff and children to achieve our high standards. Behaviour management and discipline are the shared responsibility of all staff and parents. A well-ordered school depends on good time keeping, a well organised classroom and positive relationships with children, parents and staff.
Our emphasis is on rewards to reinforce good behaviour, rather than on failures. We strongly believe that rewards have a motivational role, helping children to see that good behaviour is valued. We reward through praise, informal and formal, public and private, to individuals and groups. Rates of praise for behaviour should be as high as it is for work.
Our aims go beyond simply maintaining order, important as that is. We also foster good behaviour by promoting the spiritual, cultural, social, mental and physical development. We are aware that many factors have a bearing on the behaviour of children and the organisation, policies and physical environment and overall ethos can all have a strong influence on behaviour.
Our detailed Behaviour Management Policy is available on the School Policies section of our website, found in the Key Information section.
We pride ourselves on a highly effective rewards system that acknowledges and celebrates the achievements and successes of all our children. Across the school, inside and outside the classroom, staff consistently look for opportunities to offer rewards. Our Positive Behaviour System provides children opportunities to be recognised and praised for their academic achievements, progress, behaviour and attendance, as well as contributions to the school and the wider community. We strongly believe that children should be regularly and fairly rewarded for their achievements, to celebrate successes and also to inspire and motivate. We provide a consistent and coherent reward system. The aim is to link individual rewards to a class reward, so the focus is on the individual reward going towards the greater good.
Individual Awards Dojo Points
Dojos are given to individuals that have clearly linked to our school expectations and specific praise is offered. Children can choose to spend their dojos weekly on a reward or they can be saved each week to spend on a bigger reward.
Collective Rewards House Points
All children are arranged into houses. House points are given to reward children demonstrating positive values around the school and outside of the classroom. House points are also given to children who receive the weekly certificates in assembly for exceptional performance.
House points are collected and counted half termly. The winning team at the end of each term receives a reward with the overall winning house team at the end of the year earning a bigger treat.
Collective Rewards Pom Poms
Children are awarded coloured pom poms during lunchtimes for displaying positive behaviours. “Pom Pom” colours are linked to the colours of the houses. The house that has won the most lunchtime pom poms during the week wins 50 house points.
Collective Rewards Dojo Points
300 Combined Dojos given to a class equals a class reward. (A child must have earned at least 5 individual dojos in order to participate in the collective Dojo reward time).

Special awards are offered to selected children who have gone above and beyond and are awarded with unique opportunities.
The school has the authority to impose reasonable punishments and sanctions where necessary. We use a hierarchy of strategies to effectively reinforce the desired behaviours, to help discourage children from behaving in unacceptable ways. Such strategies and sanctions help to enforce the school rules, and to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

chapelfordvillageprimary.co.uk/students/early-years
Children enter Reception class in their final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). An ongoing assessment process from entry in September involves classroom practitioners observing children whilst working alongside them in both child led and adult directed activities, in all areas of learning. This results in a children’s EYFS profile (a statutory requirement at the end of the Foundation Stage in the summer term). These observations help us to recognise children’s strengths and abilities and the opportunity to plan for the next steps needed in their learning.
We offer a high-quality EYFS education that provides children with a secure and confident start to their school life. We are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of learning and we strive for high standards. We consider the development of the whole child and we seek to foster resilience and independence. We are inclusive and welcoming to all and our school values are embedded in all that we do. We aim to provide the essential knowledge that children need to prepare for future success and to give children the best possible start to their early education.
Our curriculum is designed so our children gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they require for success. They can only do that if we embed the right habits for learning through the Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning – Play and Exploration, Active Learning and Creative and Critical Thinking. Our enabling environment together with our warm, skilful adult interactions support children as they begin to link learning to their play and exploration.
In Reception, we invest time and energy into helping children set and reflect on their own goals by aiming high and developing a love of reading, writing and number. This is delivered through our holistic curriculum which maximises opportunities for meaningful cross-curricular links and learning experiences, as well as promoting the unique child by offering extended periods of play and sustained thinking following children’s interests and ideas. We value imagination and creativity and seek to create a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning through a vibrant continuous indoor and outdoor provision, alongside trips, visits and forest school sessions.
As parents you are your child’s first educators. At Chapelford we want to work in partnership with you to make sure children get a good start to their educational career through our school. You can help enable your child’s independence and get them ready to start school by encouraging them to do the following before starting:
• To listen carefully and follow instructions
• To tidy things away that they have used – toys, books, crayons, etc...
• To dress and undress themselves independently
• To tie shoe laces and fasten buckles and zips
• To use the toilet independently and wash their hands afterwards
• To recognise their name on their belongings and write their name
• To recognise their own belongings such as coat, hat, bag etc
• To count to 10 and begin to recognise these numbers by sight
• To be familiar with nursery rhymes and have some favourite stories
• To be able to share and take turns with others
We want to give children the best start to their education. We believe that reading is at the heart of learning and when children leave school, they should be confident, fluent readers. Early reading is taught using phonics. Teachers are skilled in delivering phonics using the Read Write Inc (RWI) complete literacy programme. This helps children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling.
Once your child is settled into school and started our Read Write Inc phonics programme they will bring home a book that is carefully matched to their reading ability. We do expect that you read with your child 5 times a week and write a comment in your child’s reading diary which they will be given.
You can include comments about other books they may enjoy reading at home. You will be provided with a school book bag and water bottle and it is important that our children learn to value and care for books from an early age, a book bag is a valuable part of this training. We also use your child’s book bag to send home any letters from school, therefore, we ask that you do not put your child’s water bottle in their book bag. This ensures our reading books are kept safe and dry and you do not get soggy letters!
Please visit the phonics and early reading section on our website to view our parent support videos.
We have an online learning journal called Tapestry. This enables us to share children’s learning journey, see photographs and videos and celebrate their achievements. Parents of Reception children will receive regular observations of their children completing and taking part in a range of activities. This allows you to have a fantastic insight of all the fun and learning that goes into each day in school. You can also add their own observations and photographs to the online learning journey to share fantastic learning from your home. You will be set up with an account over the summer using your email address provided. Please look out for the email to set up your account ready for September.
• Label all items of clothing including coats, shoes, PE kits, hats, gloves, book bags and water bottles.
• Ensure their name and class number is clearly visible on the outside of packed lunch boxes.
• Show your child how to recognise their own name on belongings.
• Book bags will be used for carrying reading books and letters to and from school. We encourage children to not bring in backpacks or any other bags.
• Please keep water bottles out of book bags as this prevents water damage on school reading books and letters.
• Bring books bags to school everyday.
• PE kits stay in school and are sent home each half term to be washed.
• Ensure your child has suitable clothing dependant on the weather eg coat, hats, scarves, sun hat etc for outdoor learning activities.
• Do not bring in toys from home as these can get lost or broken and cause upset in school.
There are a number of documents that need to be completed prior to your child starting school which will be sent to you via email. Parents of children starting reception should also fill in the ‘All About Me’ booklet with their child.
It is of paramount importance we have all of these forms completed before your child starts school to ensure we are fully informed of all essential information about your child.
