This is a transition book created just for you. It will help you learn more about your new school.
Please ask a grown up to share it with you and we look forward to seeing you in September.

Miss Saxon Class 3
Miss Saxon enjoys phonics and reading lots of lovely books from our reading area to the class.
Miss Saxon loves listening to the children read their own reading books, especially when they are so excited to be able to read.
Miss Saxon also loves the craft area as she loves to be creative and see the fantastic artwork created by the children in her class.

Each day you will need to bring the same things to school with you.
These are your bookbag, water bottle and coat.
This is where they will go.
Each morning when you arrive at school you will wait on the playground until the start of the day. Miss Saxon will open the door when it’s time to come in.
Once you have put your things away, you will sit down on the carpet for the register and Miss Saxon will share with you what you will be learning that day.
This is what your classroom looks like.
There are lots of different areas for you to explore and learn in.
This is the reading area. In the reading area you will read and share stories with your teacher and class friends.
We have lots of different books and you can choose books to take home and share too.
Miss Saxon’s favourite book is The Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.

You can also listen to stories on the Tonie box and create your own stories using the puppets.
“I like listening to stories on the Tonie box. Zog is the best because it is funny.”
We also do some guided reading. This is when you read in a group with your teacher.
This is the small world area.
Here you can play, explore and create your own stories based on the books you have been reading in class.
“I like retelling stories with my friends. I like stories about under the sea the best.”
Here is the role play area.
This is an area where you can act out different roles and jobs.
We have a home corner where you can cook, wash and look after the babies.
“I look after the babies in the home corner and make food for them.”
Other roles you can act out include police officers, doctors, vets and many more!
Here is the maths area.
This is where you will explore some of our maths challenges and get to practice some of the things you have learnt with your teacher.
You can also learn number rhymes, sing number songs and play games with your friends too!
“Playing games makes maths fun with my friends.”
This is the writing area.
Here you can mark make, draw and practice writing your name and letters. There are lots of different pencils, pens, colours and paper to choose from.
“I like writing the sounds we have learnt in phonics.”
This is the creative area.
Here you can do different crafts including painting, drawing, sticking, cutting and making different things.
“In the craft area we can use paint to create pictures.”
We also have an investigation area.
Here you can explore different things linked to the learning you are doing in class.
“I have enjoyed planting seeds and looking after them. It was exciting watching them grow.”
This is our outdoor area.
There are lots of different areas outdoors for you to explore and learn in.
We go outside every day to learn. Sometimes it is sunny and you need suncream and a hat. Sometimes it’s raining and you will need your coat. Some children love playing in the rain! Do you?
Some of the other areas outside that you can explore are the mud kitchen, reading area, water, sand and the climbing frame. In these areas your teacher will set you challenges linked to your learning each week.
At school we also have a forest school.
We visit here to help us with our learning. We explore, play and build dens.
This is the school hall where you will eat your lunch with your friends. You can choose a hot dinner or bring a packed lunch from home.
If you choose a hot dinner. You will carry your lunch on a tray like this. We have lots of tasty food for you to try.
We also do Physical Education in the hall.
You will keep your PE kit in a bag like this. Can you practice getting changed into your PE kit over the summer?
In PE we practice different skills such as throwing, catching, balancing and playing games.
“We also have a sports day where we invite our families to watch and cheer us on!”
Sometimes we have special visitors to school to help us with our learning. This year we have had exciting visits from police officers, firefighters and a Chinese New Year Workshop. “We danced with dragons, it was fun!”
In class we learn about different life cycles. These incudes watching caterpillars change and grow into butterflies.
We also watch duck eggs as they hatch into ducklings. We take care of the ducklings in class.
We observe the life cycle of a frog from frog spawn to tiny frogs!
“We like to watch the tadpoles grow!”
