Our typical day in Ducklings

Our Day in the Ducklings Our day follows the same routine everyday to help the children settle in and feel safe and welcome.

We encourage the children to be independent and to begin to organise their own belongings and learning.

Good Morning We welcome your child into class each morning from 8.55am and school starts at 9am Please wait on the playground at the back of school until we open the doors.

Unfortunately at present they will need to come in by themselves until further notice. If you have information to pass on to us you can either email us or let us know at the door.

As time goes on, they will need less support and become more independent!

Self Register We are here!

The children collect the duckling with their name on to let us know they have arrived and later on in the year, they use our interactive register on our Clever Touch board.

This also helps them to recognise their own name.

Morning Maths We have a quick maths session each morning. This enables us to recap over mathematic skills and knowledge.

We sing counting songs and action rhymes, find 1 more or 1 less than a number, name 2D or 3D shapes, solve simple addition or subtraction problems and problem solve with mathematics skills in general.

Phonics Time We have a Phonics session each morning too.

We learn to listen to sounds, recognise and read letters, blend them together and then read and write words and then sentences.

Learning Activities Activities happen indoors and outdoors.

They offer a wide range of experiences across the curriculum.

Focused activities with the adults.

Free choice in the continuous provision We learn indoors and outdoors all day, everyday.

Snack Time Snack is on offer throughout the morning.

We offer milk, water and fruit each day along with other healthy snacks throughout the week.

This is a learning time, as well as a social time, covering most other areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Mathematics Time Each day we have a Mathematics time.

We sing number rhymes, practise counting forwards and backwards, recognising and writing numbers.

Later in the year we learn about calculations and problem solving, patterns, shape and measuring.

Lunch Time After some reflection time the Ducklings are the first into lunch at 11.45am.

The meals are healthy and tasty.

The staff enjoy them too! We stay and eat with the children for the first few weeks to help them.

Topic Time We start each afternoon with a story.

This could be about the topic we are learning, a favourite book from home or one that helps the children understand and discuss something that is happening in their life at home or school.

Learning Activities Afternoon activities We provide the same learning opportunities for all areas of learning, outside as well as in.

The outside also provides us with opportunities to do all those things you can’t do inside.

There are always two members of staff outside and two inside.

Snack Time Snack is on offer again in the afternoon, usually outside, as a picnic!

This is more a social and independent time.

Tidy up Time The children are encouraged to tidy up independently as they go along.

We use the Mission Impossible music to cue the times for tidying up.

We label the drawers and help the children share the responsibility of looking after their classroom.

Reflection Time At the end of each day we take time to think about what we have been learning.

We celebrate our learning achievements and talk about our day. We award ‘Danny Duck’ to a star pupil of the day. In September the children might not be able to bring Danny home, but will receive a certificate instead.

Home Time By the end of the day we are all really tired!

Our day finishes at 3.30pm, but we open the doors from 3.25pm, so that you can chat with us or we can share good news with you, from a distance!

Until further notice, please wait at the gate on the playground and we will bring the children out to you. Again you can always email us if you have anything important that you need to discuss

Special days A visit to the farm, World Book Day, Mother’s and Father’s day, Sports Relief Day Saints’ days, Royal Wedding, Super Heroes day, Trips to the Sea Life Centre, A walk to the local garden centre and church, Remembrance day, Teddy Bears’ picnic, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas, Pancake day, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Eid and Holi.
