Quite simply, we aim to be a great school at the heart of this community
Headteacher’s Welcome
Burscough Priory Academy is a thriving community school with wonderful children and a fantastic staff team, ready to give you a warm welcome.
At our school you will find an ambitious and inclusive community; one that is dedicated to celebrating the potential and uniqueness of everyone. To support this commitment, there is a strong curriculum and inspirational and challenging teaching and learning, built upon the solid foundation of outstanding pastoral care. We will take the time to truly get to know your child so that they too can thrive at our school.
A real strength here at Burscough Priory is a distinct feeling of togetherness; driven by our school motto, ‘E Pluribus Unum’ and underpinned by our drivers, Kindness, Respect and Ambition. The relationships that are fostered in school between the children and staff are exceptional. We are very aware of our responsibility as a school at the heart of our community and we know that excellent relationships with our parents, and within the wider community, are crucial to the success of the
children. As one team, we work altogether to make sure that our children feel safe, valued and well supported.
We understand that your children get one chance at school and as such, we believe that every child should be treated as we would want our own children to be. With a focus on the balance between academic achievement and personal development, we guide our children to become independent young people who are respectful and accepting, but most of all, happy.
We look forward to meeting you and your child so that you can feel the spirit of our school and welcome you to our family.
Mrs L MacLaren

Pastoral Excellence
At Burscough Priory we make sure that every child is supported and treated as an individual. We get to know who they are and what helps them to learn and be happy. Each of our children belongs to a house and tutor group, which is their extended family in school, ensuring they feel a part of the whole school community.
Each house group is led by an enthusiastic and energetic progress leader, supported by a team of personal tutors. Each personal tutor supports, mentors and tracks the progress of their children. Twice a year we hold review days that allow the tutor and each child to meet and reflect upon their learning
experience and set targets for future development.
In addition to personal tutors and the progress leaders, each year group also has a dedicated pastoral manager. The manager is specifically devoted to supporting pastoral, welfare and behaviour interventions. The Year 7 Pastoral Manager also works with parents and teachers of Year 6 pupils to ensure maximum support for transition to Burscough Priory.
The Year 7 Pastoral Manager is available throughout the day to speak to parents and follow up concerns as they may arise.

Quality Curriculum
On starting at Burscough Priory Academy every student is allocated a Personal Tutor and is placed into a tutor group. These tutor groups contain students from every year group and each group is a member of one of four houses; Attenborough, Frank, Turing and Yousafzai and each house is led by a House Progress Leader. We have three dedicated Pastoral & Behaviour Manager (a nonteacher dedicated to wellbeing support). Year 7 have their own dedicated Pastoral & Behaviour Manager. Tutors and the House Progress Leaders, together with our Head of Learning Support and Assistant Head with responsibility for Progress and Intervention ensure cross subject overview and intervention on progress and learning matters for individuals.
All students study English Language and Literature, Maths and Science leading to GCSE qualifications and continue to participate in a core Physical Education programme. A significant proportion of students take three separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) within their core subject time. Students choose at least one GCSE option from Geography, History and/or a Modern Foreign Language, Spanish or French from the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) suite of subjects and up to two further GCSE options from either the EBacc subjects listed above and/or Art, Creative iMedia, Computing, Design Technology, Drama, Food Preparation and Nutrition, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies or a Cambridge National in Sport Science.
We also have five Personal Development Days spread throughout the year, dedicated to Personal, Social, Health and Careers Education (PSHCE), which also includes modules of Religious Education (RE) in Year 10 and 11. PHSCE is also threaded into the tutor and assembly programme throughout the academic year.
Our curriculum is ambitious, broad and balanced for all students. In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and PE, children in Year 7, 8 and 9 also study Spanish and Humanities subjects (History, Geography and RE), Art, Computer Science, Design Technology, Drama and Music.
As children enter Key Stage 4, they have the opportunity to study either the Triple or Combined Science course as well as choosing three options from the wide range of subjects listed above. All our children have the opportunity to study the full English Baccalaureate suite of subjects until the end of Year 11.

Every child should have the opportunity for a fully rounded education. Sport and physical activity not only promote a good foundation for a healthy lifestyle, they also help with life skills such as teamwork and leadership skills. Children benefit from our facilities which include a dedicated gymnasium and multi-purpose hall. In addition to this, we have extensive playing fields which include football and rugby pitches alongside track and field amenities.
