Year 8

Graphics Students will look more closely at the art of ‘Graffiti’ and learn the aesthetic nature of Graffiti designs within the Art world and society in general. They will be introduced to the artists Buff Monster, Sebastian Masuda and Keith Haring, delving further into the rationale and meaning behind this rather topical/political subgenre.

Portraiture Students will focus on the human skeletal/skull structure, producing observational studies. They will be introduced to various techniques focusing predominantly on facial features.

Component 1 -Portfolio Students will focus predominantly on producing contextual studies, imaginatively exploring the given artists whilst trialling various materials, techniques/processes.

Component 1 -Portfolio Students will develop their ideas through researching their own artists, producing self-directed/ explorative photoshoots enabling them to derive their own personalised responses to the given theme. This will lead towards and inform their Component 1 Art exam piece and produce a full explorative and personalised Art portfolio.

Realism Students will be introduced to the theme insects. They will learn to draw accurately from 2D and 3D resources. They will be introduced to the artist Caroline Kaufman and her whimsical insect designs. They will continue to learn to be playful with shape, pattern and colour in the style of Kaufman and in turn find more ways to explore and embrace imagination and build further confidence within their Art practice.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Students will follow a course of basic keyboard skills and develop these through a series of Listening, Composing and Performing activities. There will be a focus on the ‘Great Composers’.

The focus will be further developing rhythmic and melodic skills, through a range of Listening, Performing and Composing activities. They will have the opportunity to perform and arrange pop music.

Students will be further developing their performance and composing skills, with a focus on Film music. They will continue to develop their knowledge of music theory.

Students will study Film music and complete their study of the set work, Bach’s Badinerie. They will also prepare for their second performance assessment, to be completed before the end of term and start work on their first piece of Composition coursework.

Students will be learning about many different cultures and cuisines from around the world. They will have an opportunity to understand what influences the food that is eaten in a particular country. Teacher demonstrations will take place if practical work is not permitted.

Theory: Poultry Covering all the aspects of Nutrition, dietary considerations, food provenance, food hygiene & safety. Students will be using a pre-prepared workbook. Students are given an opportunity to make dishes with poultry to show the different uses of thighs, breast and wings.

Cooking & Food Preparation: Students will be given an opportunity to focus on Food Commodities with emphasis on building practical knowledge and skills. Focus will be on Pastry, Cakes, Pasta, Meat and Fish, Fruit and Vegetables and Dairy. Where possible students will be doing individual cooking Preparation for Assessments: Covering key aspects within the following fields of Food Hygiene and Safety, Food Commodities, Food Provenance and Food and Nutrition.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Introduction to D & T principles.

Pupils will continue with the theme of polymers. Pupils will use a greater range of tools and equipment, including hand files, band facing machines and strip heaters. They will learn to form acrylic with heat and how heat can affect the malleability of materials. Pupils will learn how to evaluate products using key prompts and writing frames.

Pupils will continue with the theme of Timbers Pupils will use a greater range

of tools and equipment and develop their designing, making and evaluating skills in realising their unique designs in the form of a mini GCSE project. ‘How To’ cards and writing frames will be used to aid product manufacture and evaluations.

Half Term 5 Curriculum Plan Students will continue to complete their first controlled assessment on Digital Graphics. To begin with students will complete practical skills based tasks on graphics software. Once all the skills have been learnt the pupils will complete LO3 and LO4 of the set assignment. Currently we are working on tasks in LO3.

Students will be focusing on the controlled assessment unit R087. This unit asks the students to produce a multimedia product to a brief set by the exam board.

Students will learn new skills on a software which will help them to create their own websites and then use these skills to complete tasks LO3 and LO4 of the controlled assessment brief. Currently we are working on tasks in LO3.
