What Is The Early Years Foundation Stage?

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a distinct phase of learning and is the first of the three key stages in primary education. At the end of the EYFS, children progress to Key Stage One in the September after they are five and then into Key Stage Two following their seventh birthday.

The EYFS 2020 Framework The EYFS Curriculum framework sets out the three prime areas of learning that underpin everything in the early years: • communication and language • physical development • personal, social and emotional development The four specific areas help children to strengthen and apply the prime areas: • literacy • mathematics • understanding the world • expressive arts and design All of those areas of learning are connected together. The characteristics of effective teaching and learning weave through them all. That’s because children in the early years are becoming more powerful learners and thinkers. These characteristics develop as they learn to do new things, acquire new skills, develop socially and emotionally, and become better communicators.

School Uniform School uniform can be bought directly from the ‘KIDS.STOP’ uniform shop in Hyde (0161 368 4500) or from JFC Sports, Unit 8a Redfern Industrial Estate, off Meadow street, SK14 1RE. (0161 367 7700). The prices of items do vary slightly between the two shops, so you may want to ring and ask about their prices prior to investing.

Indoor Uniform  Green school sweatshirt or cardigan  Grey skirt or trousers  White polo shirt (logo optional)  Green and white checked dress (Hot weather)  Grey Shorts (Hot Weather)  Black, velcro fastening or slip on shoes with bar across (NO laces please) Outdoor Clothing  Wellies (with name inside or underneath) to be left in school.  Warm waterproof coat with a hood.

We make use of the outdoors everyday and weather is changeable! Wellies and a warm coat are required daily.

PE Kit Children will come to school wearing their PE kit on PE days. This is the green school PE hoodie, white tshirt, black leggings/ tracksuit bottoms/ shorts, black trainers or pumps.

No jewellery.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS OF UNIFORM ARE CLEARLY LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME, SCHOOL TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOST PROPERTY.

Organisation What time does school start?

Nursery Children 8:30am – 11:30am and 12.15 - 3.15pm *30hours nursery pupils lunch 11.30-12.15. £4 a day to stay for school dinner. (price may be subject to change) £2 a day to bring own packed lunch.

Costing covers staffing supervision at lunchtime.

Reception Children 8:45am – 3:15pm (could change due to social distancing so may continue to be staggered starts, if so the doors open between 8.45 and 8.55 and school ends at 3.05 Wrap Around Care We have a ‘care club’ at school, which opens at 7.30am and closes at 6.00pm. If you need to use this service, please visit the school office to discuss costings per hour and availability.

Dropping Off / Picking Up All Foundation Stage children use the Foundation Stage entrance which is across the playground and around to the back of the school. The Nursery children enter and exit through the first door through the yellow gate and Reception children enter and exit through the second door. This door leads into separate cloakrooms. If your child is late please go to the front entrance to ensure your child is registered as being in school. Please note that if there are any changes to

the person who will collect your child/ren then school staff need to know for child protection reasons.

If you drive to school, dropping-off or parking is not permitted in the school grounds. Please also observe parking restrictions on Bradley Green Road.

Attendance Attendance and punctuality at school is a key factor that influences children’s attainment. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time so that they do not miss any opportunity for learning. Schools have been instructed by the Department of Education not to authorise holidays in term time.

Absences If your child is absent from school please contact the school office. The telephone number is 0161 368 2166.

Snack and Lunchtime Arrangements Snacks In line with our healthy eating policy the children are provided with a piece of fruit and a drink of milk (until their 5th birthday) every day. We also ask that you provide water in a clearly labelled bottle every day. In addition to this we try to provide enhanced snacks or bake to introduce children to new foods. These often link to what we are learning about. If your child stays a full day in Nursery (30hours), they receive two snacks, therefore, we ask for a payment of £8.00 per half term per child. If they are part time (15hours) or are in Reception, they receive one snack a day, therefore we ask for £4.00 per half term. This should be paid via parent pay, which you will be given a letter about when your child starts school. There are 6 half terms in the year. Children will not need to bring any additional snacks.

Lunchtime (Reception Children Only) All Reception and KS1 children are entitled to free school meals, which we recommend that all parents/carers apply for. Please ask the office staff about free school meals for all Reception and KS1 children.

The children are supervised at lunchtime by midday assistants at lunchtime.

Funky Friday Every week we celebrate the wonderful manners of 2 chosen children from each class by playing their choices of music whilst they are eating.

Medical Information

Any medical information will be treated confidentially.

Please provide as much information about your child to help us to ensure your child’s needs are met.

Medicines cannot be routinely administered in school, although asthma sprays can be kept in school for emergencies. If your child requires medicine during the school day, a medicine administration consent form needs to be completed and signed by the Head teacher.

These forms are available from the school office.

Parental/Carer Involvement We aim to provide the best quality education and care for your children in partnership with you as parents/carers.

If you would like to be involved with any activities in school we welcome parental/carer support. If you would like any more information about supporting in school, please speak to a member of the Foundation Stage staff.

Please note that for safeguarding and welfare requirements, any person helping in school is required to be checked for suitability to work with young children.

Meetings With Parents Please feel free to talk to any member of staff regarding any issue concerning your child. We value and enjoy working in partnership with parents to support our children.

Our class dojo system helps you to keep in touch. You can use it to see your child’s dojo points (our reward system) and also send and receive messages. Please ensure you set this up as early as possible with the code you will be given.

Parent consultations are held twice a year when parents are invited into school to discuss their child’s progress. You will receive a written report of progress at the end of the academic year.

Education Off Site Throughout the year we will look to use the local environment to develop children’s learning and children will be taken out to observe local features.

We also plan trips to support themes and children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.
