Year 11 Entrance Exams
1-Before the Exams… How to prepare
yourself
• All students were given their individual Exam Timetable on Monday. You MUST familiarise yourself with your next exam, what day and especially your row and seat number!
• Use the Revision Guide, Prep, GKO and any revision set by your class teachers to revise for your exams.
• Make sure to get a good nights sleep and plenty of rest before your exams. Teenagers need about 8hrs for the brain to fully recover.
• You need fuel! Make sure you eat and drink plenty of water in the morning and at lunch before your exams.
• Set your alarm clock…GET IN ON TIME!!!!
“Fail to prepare.. be prepared to fail!”
2-Lining up and going down to the hall
• Make sure you are in on time line up in your forms making sure your Form Tutor has you registered. The attendance team will chase any students not present. Go to the toilet before line up.
• You MUST place your mobile phone, any watches, ear pods, air pods etc in your individual exams pouch found in your Form Exams Box.
• When instructed you will then move to your Exam Lines. Find your Row (A, B, C, D etc) in the windows and line up in numerical order (A1, A2, A3 etc). If you are in the Bar Area you will line up by the fence next to Highfurlong.
• LISTEN IN CAREFULLY and stand still in silence while you are addressed. Heads of Departments or Subject Leads will give you any last minute guidance (usually which questions/sections to do or not do etc). If you do the wrong sections/questions, this could severely impact your exam results.

3-In the Exam Hall…
• Walk into the Exam Hall in silence placing your coat and bag at the front.
• Find your row and seat quickly and quietly. Stand behind your chair in full Aspire uniform. Check you have the correct desk using the Student ID card at the top left corner of the exam desk. Exam Invigilators will support you if needed.
• Face the FRONT. You MUST NOT turn around as this is classed as ‘communicating’.
• Once every student is in the Exam Hall and stood behind their chairs, whoever is starting off that exam will instruct you to sit down. Also, they will request that you check you have the correct paper and tier (Foundation/Higher). At any point you are not sure place your hand up and check with an exam invigilator.
• The Exam Lead will explain how to fill in the front of each exam paper (Centre Number, Candidate Number etc). You MUST sign the paper to declare it is all your own work.
• The Exam Lead will indicate how long you have to complete the exam and will state what time the exam will start. Do NOT open your paper until instructed.
• Start and Finish times will be clearly displayed at the front and side of the Exam Hall. Keep your eyes on the time!

Malpractice- Exam Rules & Regulations! (JCQ)
• You MUST NOT have any devices on your person e.g mobile phones, smart watch (any watch), ear pods, and any web enabled devices etc. If these are found to be on your person the school MUST report it. This will lead to disqualification of that exam, but potentially any other exams you are sitting with that exam board.
• NO COMMUNICATING, this includes turning around or writing notes/messages. If communication takes place, again this MUST be reported. Any writing, notes, doodles MUST all be submitted to the Exam Board.
• NO pencil cases. The Exams Team will provide you with a pencil case full of equipment you may need. Bring your own BLACK pens.
• Bottles of water MUST not have labels on them. Any drinks bottles (water) must be clear/translucent NOT tinted.

4-If there is a fire drill….
• If the Fire Alarm goes off LISTEN carefully to the Exam Lead for instructions and guidance.
• Exam Invigilators will guide you out a row at a time through the fire exit. Stay CALM and under no circumstances do you communicate.
• You must stay a set distance apart from the student in front and behind you.
• You will line up on the Tennis Courts in Row/Seating order NOT in your forms
• You will be taken back to the Exam Hall in the same manner. The Exam will be restarted by the Exam Lead. Any lost time will be added on.
5-Finishing the exam….
• The Exam Lead will announce when there are 5 minutes remaining. Keep your eye on the clock and time throughout the exam.
• When time is up the Exam Lead will instruct you to stop writing and close your exam papers. This your last chance to check the front has be completed and filled in properly before handing your paper in.
• The Exam Lead will ask the Exam Invigilators to collect the papers. You MUST LISTEN to when your paper or tier is being collected. Papers are collected in a specific order.
• Once all the papers are in the Exam Lead will slowly dismiss a couple of rows at a time. Stand up, put your chair under and go and collect your belongings from the front. You MUST be in SILENCE until you leave the building. Be considerate of any exams that may still be going on.
• Walk sensibly up the ramp to the main yard where your teachers will greet you with the phone boxes.
What Ifs…..
• I need the toilet? Put your hand up and an Exam Invigilator will firstly check if you are on the Toilet Pass list. If NOT, you may not be allowed to go. Go BEFORE the exam.
• I have the wrong paper? YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, always check your paper at the start of the exam. Staff will check for you. However, if you only realise partly through the exam please alert an Exam Invigilator straight away.
• I am late? The attendance team will call home if you are not in to check where you are. Once arrived you will hand your phone in and be taken to the Exam Hall. You will be given the full time of your exam. You MUST NOT leave with everyone else.
• If I don’t know which is my exam desk? Be prepared, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY- check with on your timetable and confirm with your Form Tutor. However, Exam Leads & Invigilators have a seating plan.
• I finish my exam early? Go through your exam paper again. Read the questions carefully. Check the marks available. See what you can add. Always TRIPLE check your work. Do NOT doodle or ask for spare paper to draw on. Do NOT put your head down on the desk. Sit up, face the front and wait till the end.
• I feel sick? Let your Form Tutor, Exam Lead/Invigilator know. They will support you where necessary. Catch up exams WILL take place for sickness/absence where necessary.
