Year 5 Tigers

WelcometoYear5! I hope you all had a lovely summer and I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure we have a happy and successful year.

Curriculum this half-term

 We are starting this half-term studying our School Values in detail, focusing on passages from the Bible that highlight these values along with how they relate to our lives.

 In Geography we will be looking at natural resources and energy. We will be learning what natural resources are and why we need them.

 In Maths we will be working on our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction.

 In RE we will be doing a unit called ‘How and why do Christians read The Bible’. Children will also be learning about different faiths such as: Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.

 In English we will be reading the novel Beowulf. This half term we will be writing our own stories based on the book Beowulf.

 Mrs Lawell will be covering PPA in Tigers every Friday, she will be teaching Computing and Spanish.

More details about our curriculum can be found on the Tigers’ class page on the school website.

P.E and Swimming

 Our P.E session will be on Tuesday afternoon. Our focus this term will be gymnastics.

 Please ensure children have their P.E kit in for all P.E sessions.

 Parents must provide a note / speak to school if their child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in.

 Please provide children with plasters if they are unable to remove earrings.

Swimming: We will be going swimming on Friday mornings. Please ensure your child brings their swimming kit which includes:

 Towel

 Swimming costume or swim shorts

 Swim cap

School Website

 Our class webpage will be regularly updated throughout each half term so you can see all the exciting things your child has been learning.

Homework

 Bug club/home reading books.

 Additional tasks may include spellings, times tables, handwriting tasks, etc.

Support in class

 In class we are lucky enough to have full time support from the wonderfully experienced and enthusiastic Mrs Wohler.

Reading

 Children will have a 30 minute reading session each day and will have opportunities to read with the class teacher each week.

 Children have a Bug Club log in, where they can access books at their level.

 Please try to encourage your child to read at home at least 3+ times each week.

 Progress can be tracked by the class teacher online.

 It is important for your child’s comprehension skills that they read books more than once.

If you have any concerns about your child’s time at school, please make an appointment to discuss this as soon as possible.

Manythanksforyour support,

MissNoonandMrsWohler
