Welcome to Year 1! I am really looking forward to working with you and your child. I know we are going to have a fantastic year!
Our Curriculum this half-term Our main theme for this first half-term will be ‘Treasure Island’. This theme will focus on Geography, where we will be using our observational skills to locate features of the school grounds and drawing simple maps. We will also be designing and making our own pirate ship from junk modelling. In English we are studying ‘The Night pirates’ and will be looking at sentence structures and writing wanted posters for Captain Patch. In Maths we will be working on our understanding of number, place value and position. In R.E we will be learning about God’s creations and Harvest. You can find our curriculum map with more information about our exciting year on the Rabbits’ class page which is located on the school website. Support in Class
We are very lucky to have Miss Harrison working full time in the Rabbit’s class.
P.E
Our P.E sessions will be on Thursdays and Fridays. One session each week will be taught by a specialist coach and the other will be taught by me. Please ensure children have their P.E kit in school on these days. Please provide a note or speak to school if your child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in.
Phonics Screening This will be taking place at the end of the school year. However, there will be a meeting and more information available closer to the time. Reading We have a new scheme in place for reading which is currently being rolled our across KS1. There will be more information to follow regarding this. Your child will be listened to each week by a member of staff however it is essential that they read at home as much as possible.
School Website Our class webpage will be regularly updated throughout each half term so you can see all the exciting things the Rabbit class get up to.
