Welcome to Year 2! I hope you all had a lovely summer and I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure we have a happy and successful year. Curriculum this half-term  Our main theme for the first half-term will be: ‘Whooo lives in a habitat like this’. Along with reading and creating our own version of the story Owl Babies, we will be studying different owls, where they live and what they need to survive.  In Maths we will be working on our understanding of place value, calculations and geometry.  In R.E we will be learning about the bible and other religious books. We will also have two R.E related mini-themes this half-term: Our School Values and Harvest.  Our Science topic will be ‘Living things and their Habitats’ where we will be classifying different animals, looking at how they are suited to their habitats and creating food chains.  More details about our curriculum can be found on the Owls’ class page on the school website.  The children are bound to have a wonderful time with Mrs Hewitt in their PSHE and Computing lessons. Support in class  In class we are lucky enough to have full time support from the wonderfully experienced and enthusiastic Mrs Hulme.

P.E Our P.E sessions will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. One session each week will be taught by a specialist coach. Please ensure children have their P.E kit in for all P.E sessions. Parents must provide a note / speak to school if their child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in. Please provide children with plasters if they are unable to remove earrings. Homework

 Bug Club  Additional tasks may include spellings, times tables, handwriting tasks, etc.  Revision tasks to support your child in the KS1 SATs will be handed out in the months leading up to it.  

Reading Children will have a 30 minute reading session each day and will have opportunities to read with the class teacher each week. Children have a Bug Club log in, where they can access books at their level. Please try to encourage your child to read at home at least 3+ times each week and ensure they have their reading book each day. Progress can be tracked by the class teacher online. It is important for your child’s comprehension skills that they read books more than once.

School Website  Our class webpage will be regularly updated throughout each half term so you can see all the exciting things your child has been learning.

If you have any concerns about your child’s time at school, please make an appointment to discuss this as soon as possible. Many thanks for your support, Mr Dawe, Mrs Hulme
