KS1-KS2 Physical Education Objective Overview
2019-2020
Our PE Promise At Bishop Martin, we offer a broad and balanced PE curriculum based on the needs of the children within our school. We aim to provide a curriculum that is inspiring, motivational and inclusive for all our pupils, ensuring that we offer a healthy as well as a spiritual ethos to our school. We benefit from the expertise of specialist coaches from West Lancashire Sport Partnership once a week. Our teachers then follow and build on the skills learnt in another PE lesson during the week. We aim to treat every child as an individual and unlock their potential to achieve their educational and personal best. We aim to expose our children to a wide range of sports, both during planned lesson time and through the breadth of extra-curricular activities we offer. We work towards providing children with the core skills needed to unlock that potential and build a PE curriculum where everyone feels safe, secure and valued. Purpose of study A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Aims The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
are physically active for sustained periods of time
engage in competitive sports and activities
lead healthy, active lives.
PE Attainment targets – Key stages 1 and 2 By the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study.
