Welcome to Grey Squirrels! We hope you all had a lovely summer and we look forward to working with you and your child to ensure we have a happy and successful year.

Adults in class

 Mrs Maley will teach theclass Monday and Tuesday; Miss Casey will teach the class Thursday and Friday, and both teachers will be in classon Wednesday.

 In class we are very fortunate to have support from MissHulme each day.

 We will also be workingvery closely with theother year 1/ 2 class, Red Squirrels, with Miss Rowat, Miss Blackwell-Priceand Ms Still.

 For some lessons, children will be taught in their separate year groups.

P.E

 Our P.E sessions will be on Tuesdays and Wednedays. Please ensure children have their P.E kit in for all P.E sessions and warm clothes for colder days.

 Please provide a note / speak to school if your child is unable to do P.E, otherwise children will be expected to join in.

 Please cover earrings on the morning of P.E days with plasters if your child is unable to remove earrings for lessons.

School Website

 Please keep checking out class webpage as we regularly update it with the children’s learning.

 Our Curriculum Map for the year and a summary of what we will be learning each half term can also be found here.

 The kids section of subject pages also has links to useful websites to support learning at home.

Reading

 Children will have daily reading to an adult during our Read Write Inc sessions.

 Home reading books can be accessed online from the Oxford Owl website.

 Once your child can confidently read the book they have been practising in class, they will bring a slip home to inform you which book they should be reading at home.

 Children will also bring home a reading book linked to their phonics sound. Please return this to school the following week.

 Children will also bring home a ‘book to share’ each week, which they will choose from our class library. This book is not for the children to read, but to enjoy listening to and sharing with an adult. Please return this to change for a new book each Monday.

Supporting at home

 At the beginning of each half term, children will get a booklet with work that can be completed at home if you wish. This is not homework.

 Children will have login details for Oxford Owl (to access their reading books); Language Angels for Spanish activities and Year 2 will also have logins for TTRS (Times Table RockStars)- All provided within thewelcome pack

If you have any concerns about your child’s time at school, please make an appointment to discuss this as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your support, Mrs Maley and Miss Casey
