INFORMATION GUIDE

Everything you need to know about our one year programme to inspire students to build the foundations for sixth form study.

YEAR 0 PROGRAMME

Year 0 is the first year of a three year sixth form experience for students who haven’t met the College’s A Level / BTEC Level 3 entry requirements.

It involves a full programme of study in Year 0 before moving up to Level 3 study in Years 1 and 2. Students will study two GCSE subjects that suit their future aspirations alongside GCSE Maths and/or English Language if they didn’t achieve a grade 5.

Students will also complete a sixth form diploma and have academic skills and careers support along the way.

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL I STUDY?

In conjunction with studying GCSE Maths and/or English Language, students have a choice of two of the following GCSE subjects:

• Psychology

• Sociology

• Film Studies

• Geography

• Religious Studies

• Computer Science (Students must have achieved a grade 5 in Maths)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Two GCSEs at Grade 4 and three GCSEs at Grade 3, including Maths & English Language.

STEPPING UP TO SIXTH FORM

After completing Year 0, students will progress to A Level or BTEC Level 3 upon achieving two GCSEs at Grade 4 and two GCSEs at Grade 5 while at the College.

SIXTH FORM DIPLOMA

Each student on the Year 0 Programme will take part in an enrichment diploma.

Enrichment is a key part of the broader education that makes up the College’s sixthform experience. The Sixth Form Diploma is a comprehensive programme of enrichment activities that students will complete, choosing from a wide range of options across volunteering, physical pursuits, skill-building, and additional courses.

At the end of the programme, students will be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze award based on the number of hours they complete in each category each term.

The first year of your three year course will be a year of personal growth before your final two years. You will have experiences at College that you’ve never had in high school.

Year 0 will prepare you perfectly for Advanced Level study. Not only will you achieve great things academically and gain invaluable qualifications, but you’ll also enjoy a first year of new beginnings and an exciting fresh start.

We will push you to achieve success. No one said that the journey to and through Advanced Level study would be easy, but we are experts in this field and know how to unlock every student’s potential.

This is going to be a groundbreaking year for you, with so much going on and an exciting first step into sixth form life.

The programme has been specifically designed to help you both excel academically and grow as a person, so completing your sixth form diploma alongside your qualifications will be fun and inspiring and unlock some abilities and passions that you may never have thought possible.

We’re fully aware that you may have an element of disappointment about how your GCSEs turned out, but this programme is the perfect way to build upon the foundations that you established at high school and achieve great things in your three years with us.

We believe in your potential and know that you can be extremely successful at College, with your commitment to working hard and our commitment to supporting you every step of the way.

You’ll enjoy your experiences in the classroom and outside it, and find that College life is nothing you’ve been through at school before. Look forward to being treated like an adult, with mutual respect, and achieving fantastic successes that will set you up for life.
