Everything you need to know about our new and exciting one year programme to inspire students to build the foundations for sixth form study.
what is it?
Year 0 is the first year of a three year sixth form experience for students who haven’t met the College’s A Level / BTEC Level 3 / T Level entry requirements.
It involves a full programme of study in Year 0 before moving up to Level 3 study in Years 1 and 2. Students will study two GCSE subjects that suit their future aspirations alongside GCSE Maths and/or English Language if they didn’t achieve a grade 5.
Students will also complete a sixth form diploma and have academic skills and careers support along the way.

In conjunction with studying GCSE Maths and/or English Language, students have a choice of two of the following GCSE subjects:

Two GCSE Grade 4s and three GCSE Grade 3s including Maths & English Language.
stepping up to sixth form
After completing Year 0, students will step up to A Level, BTEC Level 3 or T Level Study upon achieving two GCSE grade 4s and two GCSE Grade 5s whilst at the College.

the sixth form diploma
Each student on the Year 0 Programme will take part in an enrichment diploma.
Enrichment is a large part of the full body of education that makes up the college’s sixth form experience. The Sixth Form Diploma is a full programme of Enrichment activities that students will complete from a huge range of options across volunteering, physical pursuits, skill-building and additional courses.
At the end of the programme, students will be awarded either a gold, silver or bronze award based on how many hours they participate in each category each term.

Your assigned tutor will keep a close eye on how you’re getting on with work, but they are also here to help you settle in and enjoy College life from day one. You’ll have a weekly small group tutorial and termly one-to-ones with us, plus we operate an open door policy in the tutor base for you to drop in if you feel you need our help.

As well as supporting you with every day College Life and academic progress, we’re also expert careers advisors, so we can help you with big decisions that will affect your future plans, and offer the best support and advice on options going forward after Year 0 and then completing your College journey.
