NCFE will be offering live webinar sessions that introduce key aspects and topics of the specification, and highlight various free resources that can support your delivery. All webinars are free to attend.

Topics

STEM Learning will be offering remotely delivered CPD courses that compliment these webinars and explore topic areas in more depth. The CPD courses vary in length between 3-6 hours and will be delivered over several twilight sessions, with a mix of facilitator and participant led sessions. CPD is charged at a rate of £20 per hour - a whole course will need to be booked rather than individual sessions

Post 16 Remote Science Network: Teaching and Learning in 2021/22 As we move into a new academic year, collaboration is more important than ever before. This is a chance to share information, learn from others and navigate through the changing world of science in post 16 education.

You will be provided with expert help from practitioners to identify priority issues, signpost support and will be able to develop solutions, drawing on the expertise of others within the group

Sessions Four network sessions will take place throughout 2021/22 and will be led by our Science Learning Partnership, a unique collaboration between STEM Learning, City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Abbeygate Sixth Form College and West Suffolk College. The sessions are suitable for teachers and middle leaders of post 16 science in schools or colleges.

You will be provided with expert help from post 16 practitioners to identify priority issues, signpost support and will be able to develop solutions, drawing on the expertise of others within the group.

Topics covered vary but will reflect educational priorities and needs identified by providers – please check our website for current details.

Outcomes 

You’ll be able to work collaboratively to identify priorities in science teaching and learning You’ll be able to share and develop strategies to tackle issues, drawing on expertise as needed from outside the network

Dates The first session will be taking place on Wednesday 22nd September (15:30-17:00) with subsequent sessions taking place in Dec 2021, Feb 2022 and March 2022. Please check website for exact dates and times.

Topics Topics covered by each session will vary but are likely to focus on themes of transition support, employer engagement, practical science and assessment.

Wednesday 22nd September 15:30-17:00 Session 1 Supporting transition of students: from pre-16 to post-16 education As we move into a new academic year, we will look at how we are supporting learners to transition from pre16 to post-16 education. With the ongoing disruption experienced by learners due to the COVID pandemic, diagnosis of knowledge and skills gaps with appropriate intervention strategies will be crucial. In this network meeting, we will share case studies of how different providers are approaching this issue, review teaching and learning resources and have the opportunity to discuss methods of support we can provide.
