Judging our entries to the “Black Holes� short story competition was a real pleasure. There were several very imaginative entries worthy of the top prize however the overall winner is Reece in Year 9 as his story was both imaginative and somewhat scientific.

What job do you do at Ashton?

I work as a Communication Support Worker with the Deaf students in the DSD department. My time is spent both in mainstream lessons and the Hive.

What did you do before you started at Ashton?

My background is in BSL Interpreting but before Ashton, I managed an Outdoor Adventure Resort in Sequoia National Park, California.

What are you first impressions of Ashton?

It’s great to see such a diverse group of friendly staff and students. Everyone has made me feel very welcome and even though I’ve only been here for a month, it feels like a lot longer (in a good way of course).

How do you hope to help Ashton be an even better school?

The staff at the school genuinely care about the individual needs of every student and I look forward to contributing towards that to help create the best possible school experience.

What book are you reading at the moment?

I’m currently reading a book called The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It’s a book that looks at the choices that we make in life and ultimately seeks to answer the ultimate question: what is the best way to live? Review to follow.
