Be Ambitious Week is back for a successful third year, offering A1 students valuable opportunities to gain meaningful work experience. Students can either self-place or participate in an employer-led briefs at college. This year, for the briefs, we have a fantastic line up of local, national, and international employers ready to get involved! You can choose the best option for you: either find your own placement or apply for a brief led by an employer. Both options provide a great way to develop a range of transferable skills, build professional networks, and start planning your future career path.

What is the Be Ambitious EmployerLed Brief?
Experience the excitement of working on real-world projects!
Our employer-led projects offer a range of meaningful work-based experiences across various sectors and organisations. Throughout the week, you’ll receive support from a link teacher, providing a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively, explore topics beyond your classroom studies, and immerse yourself in the professional world.
Work independently or in groups on your project, have regular check-ins with your mentor, and present your project at the end of the week for feedback.
In 2024, 94% of participating students felt that the employer-led project enhanced their employability skills.

What is a Self-Placement?
Students have the option to independently contact an employer to arrange their own placement. MS Forms for self-placement will be provided by the Work Placement Team. Please note that you must secure agreement with the employer and return the necessary MS Form to the Work Placement Team by the specified deadline.
In 2024, 96% of students who participated felt their placement significantly enhanced their employability skills.

Q&A Be Ambitious week
Q: How will students be supported during the Employer-Led Projects?
A: Students will receive guidance from a link teacher. These mentors provide insights into the industry, assist with the project, and conduct check-ins throughout the week to ensure progress and provide feedback.
Q: Can students work on projects independently, or do they have to work in groups?
A: Students have the flexibility to work either independently or in groups, depending on the nature of the project and their preference.
Q: What happens at the end of Be Ambitious Week?
A: At the end of the week, students present their projects and receive feedback from their Link teacher. Outstanding contributions may be recognised with nominations for prizes and awards at the annual Awards Event.
Q: Do studenst need to find their own placements?
A: Ideally yes, this this helps them become independent and learn to network, which are invaluable skills for life! We will run workshops for students relating tothe best ways to find placements
Q: How do students secure a self-placement?
A: Students must contact an employer, agree on the placement details, and submit the relevant documents to the Work Placement Team by the specified deadline.We will run workshops on teh best approach to this.
Q: Will any college-sourced placements be available?
A: We will try and help those studenst who struggle to find placements
Q: How do Employer-Led Projects and Self-Placements benefit students?
A: Both opportunities provide practical experience, allowing students to develop a range of transferable employability skills. In 2024 94% of students participating in employer-led projects and 98% of those in placements felt that these experiences significantly enhanced their skills and career readiness.

Q: What if I find a placement but the dates don’t match the ones for Be Ambitious week?
A: Unfortunately you cannot do the placement as you will need to be in collegeas usual.
Q: I have a part time job, can I use that as my work placement?
A: We would like you to expand outside of this if you can, however if the company will allow you to shadow someone who does a different role, then that is fine.
