College campus With state-of-the-art classroom facilities, innovative study spaces and areas to socialise, our award-winning campus is specifically designed to provide you with the best possible learning environment. Covering over 6 acres, the campus allows you to have the independence to grow academically in a safe and supportive setting.

Over the past few years, our college campus has grown with the incredible demand for state of the art equipment and an inclusive learning environment. The site has transformed dramatically from our historic building dating back to 1928. Now, our campus perfectly reflects who we are – a modern centre of excellence with exceptional expertise and a long-standing rich history.

Each department has its own building or space that allows you the freedom to work without limitations. Our campus provides you with the independence to study and a safe space that you are comfortable spending time in. The Food Market and Costa are incredible social spaces built with our students in mind, alongside the Library and the Learning Commons.

This year marks the opening of our brand new purpose built Art and Design building. Our Art courses have a new home in a range of fantastic studios and workrooms, complete with photography studio and dark room, heat treatment and ceramics room, as well as a beautiful outdoor terrace.

We are committed to ensuring that your teaching is of the highest possible quality in all subject areas. Our dedicated teachers are specialists in their subject areas and lessons are designed to stretch and challenge you. You will be set challenging and aspirational target grades to help you to achieve the best grades possible.

Dedicated tutors deliver the weekly tutorial programme which ensures that students leave Ashton Sixth Form College fully prepared for their next step. Tutorials focus on helping you to develop study skills, post 18 progression, university application preparations, student finance and revision skills, as well as employability programmes for those interested in apprenticeships and work. Each of these help you to develop your knowledge of the wider world.

Our careers advisers provide a wealth of knowledge and guidance to help you make informed choices through some of the most important decisions you may need to make. They also regularly invite universities, apprenticeship providers and employers to the college to help you make links for the future.

Senior Tutors

Ashton Sixth Form College

Each student is assigned a Senior Tutor who is solely dedicated to your pastoral care and wellbeing whilst at college. Your tutor will guide you through each stage of college life, ensuring you meet deadlines and make the most out of college opportunities. You will meet with your tutor regularly to ask questions, get advice and tackle any problems that may create a barrier to your success. They work very closely with all teaching staff to help provide effective and swift intervention and to get students who need such support back on track.

Multi-faith Chaplaincy For people of all faiths and none, the Chaplaincy has an open door policy. Students and staff can take a moment to pray, light a candle or reflect.

Inclusive Learning support For those students who may need additional support, our team of specialist staff will work with you to develop a tailored package of support. Inclusive Learning help students across a range of areas including those with learning difficulties, accessibility issues, disabilities, mental health and other.

Counselling Our highly qualified on-site counsellor provides a confidential service for those experiencing personal or emotional problems.

Celebrating Equality and Diversity We are fully committed to ensuring that all students achieve their full potential in a safe and welcoming environment. Promoting equality and celebrating diversity are central to our core values. All of our staff and governors are dedicated to ensuring that equality, diversity and inclusion are fully embedded into all college practices.

Financial support We recognise that supporting students financially through post-16 education can be difficult for a number of families. We therefore can offer financial support through the 16-19 Bursary scheme to support students with their educational needs. Entitlement to the bursary is linked to household income, benefits received, or any form of financial hardship.

Our dedicated enrichment and work placement programmes offer all students new experiences, challenges and opportunities that will develop you as a person and make you ready for the world of work or university.

Every one of our students has the opportunity to take part in work-related experience and activities to develop the skills needed for employment or university. This means so much more than simply spending a week with a business. Placements and other work related activities are embedded throughout our courses all year round. As part of your vocational course or during placement week, our dedicated work placement team will ensure that you have access to real world experience in the industry you want to progress on to.

We encourage all students to plan for their future. At Ashton Sixth Form College, you’ll get excellent support and advice on career planning, or your application to higher education. The Imagine Your Future programme, ingrained within the college curriculum, connects students with industry experts, alumni, university and training providers.

Your experience outside the classroom is important to us and you will have access to an extensive enrichment offer including First Aid training, British Sign Language, Japanese and culture, gaming, crafts, ukulele club, LGBT, college band, debate society and more. Taking part in enrichment activities complements your main college programme and will provide you with new skills to enhance your CV.

University preparation

Our flagship Realising Aspirations Programme prepares you for university life. You will choose a subject strand that interests you most, attend university-style seminars and lectures from experts in the field and have the chance to visit a UK Russell Group or specialist university.

Training and development You’ll have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications that will help you to further yourself, many of which are valued by universities and employers. There are lots of options; you could do first aid, sign language or improve your presentation skills. All students also have the opportunity to undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The EPQ will set you apart from other people as it demonstrates your willingness to carry out a piece of extended work and that you have developed crucial skills for the workplace or further study.

Team Ashton The sporting community here is strong.

We currently offer a range of sports both competitive and for fun including football, netball, rugby, basketball, cricket and Zumba.

We have outstanding links to local clubs and coaches, including Manchester City Football Club, Manchester Giants Basketball, Manchester Thunder Netball and UK Rugby who will help you develop in both your sport and education.

Duke of Edinburgh Through adventures, caring for others and working creatively as part of team, Duke of Edinburgh allows you to gain life skills to set you apart. You can work towards your Gold Award through the five main elements: volunteering, physical, skill, residential, and expedition.

We understand that the working world is competitive and we want to give you the best chance, academically and professionally, to achieve your goals. Our strong partnerships with local businesses and schools were praised by Ofsted.

We have a dedicated work placements team who are committed to ensuring that all our students are work-ready and have access to work experience opportunities whilst at college. The type of work experience you do and the duration depends on what course you are studying. A number of our full-time vocational courses include a compulsory work placement. Students on these courses are focussed individuals gaining both theory and practical knowledge in a range of settings related to their course.

XL is our higher achievers programme that prepares students to succeed beyond expectations. Through specialist tutor groups, dedicated support networks and tailored experiences, XL students gain a tremendous amount of skills and experiences to set them apart.

XL students

Mock interviews

XL is our high achievers programme, often progressing on to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell group universities. A number have progressed on to the most competitive school leaver programmes and apprenticeships in the country. Those aspiring to a career path in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Sciences, the Arts and the Humanities do extremely well on the XL programme. The XL programme guides and stretches our most able learners, promoting an aspirational culture.

XL students apply to some of the most competitive pathways. As a result, the XL programme provide mock interviews with university tutors, graduates and professionals to help you prepare for your future.

Extended Project Qualification The EPQ is an additional qualification that encourages you to think independently and develop your skills in research, time management and creativity. You will choose a topic that you are passionate about and explore it in depth.

Oxbridge preparation Oxbridge applicants have specialist support programmes created for them including mock interviews, summer schools and master classes.

Through opportunities such as the Cambridge Shadowing Scheme, Oxford Pathways, Oxbridge Road shows, Corpus Christi Master classes at Cambridge University, Application Days and the Oxford Edge Consultancy, you will gain an edge to succeed at the highest level.

Specialist tutorials The bespoke system of XL tutorials is delivered on a weekly basis. Led by our XL Manager, XL tutorials draw on influences such as Sports Psychology, Character Education and Growth Mindset. You will develop the tools and skills to be an effective independent learner. XL students come together weekly to share and learn from one another, as well as benefiting from formal and informal one-to-one support with your XL mentor.

Choosing your course With over 50 courses to choose from at varying levels, there is a study programme to suit each individual. Not every student wants to study the same subjects and not every student learns in the same way. Because of this, our three study programmes - A-Levels, Mixed Study and Vocational - work to help you decide which is the best option for you. We offer a range of traditional subjects alongside a more diverse and varied curriculum.

Mixed Study The Mixed Study programme combines a mix of A-Level courses and Vocational courses, which are equivalent to 1 A-Level. This option of study provides you with a mix of exam and coursework assessment. You will normally choose to study 3 subjects over two years. You may also be able to take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

Vocational Vocational courses allow you to specialise in a particular pathway. Full-time vocational courses give you real life practical experience with the knowledge to back it up. Vocational Level 3 courses are studied over 2 years, while Level 2 courses are studied over 1 year.

Mo Morris Studied Graphic Design, 3D Design and Technology and Film Studies. She achieved A*A*B and went on to study Illustration at UWE Bristol.

Karishma Dayalji Studied 3D Design and Technology, Geography, Maths and Physics before progressing on to Newcastle University to study Architecture.

Jamie Fenton Studied 3D Design, English and IT before going on to study Product Design at Huddersfield University. He’s now a Design Engineer at Armstrong RMI Pressure System, completing his Masters in Mechanical Engineering.

Joshua Findlow Studied Fine Art, Graphics and Photography.

He then went on to begin an apprenticeship as a Games Artist at Playgroundsquad.

From the financial structures of everyday life to the management of companies to the marketing of the products we buy – you will gain a broad understanding of the world we live in. Digital Technology and Multimedia is currently one of the fastest growing industries. Almost every aspect of our lives is now influenced more and more by technological advances - virtual reality gaming, the prominence of video on social media, the films we watch on the big screen and the IT infrastructure required to make it work.

Film and Media Studies courses allow you to explore the theory behind the industry, the meanings, processes and influences, covering bodies of work from the past to the present day. Vocational courses in Media Production and IT provide you with work experience opportunities that will allow you to gain a first-hand understanding of the industry and encourage you to network too. Careers Careers within the Digital Technology and Multimedia sector are extremely diverse. There are a growing number of pathways, whether you are interested in working behind the scenes, on set, editing, directing, development, cyber-security, journalism, reporting or broadcasting.

Previous students have gone on to study and work in Visual Effects, TV and Radio, Filmmaking, Illustration, Software Engineering, Journalism, Games Design, Animation, Communication and Creative Writing, to name a few.

Kyle Ogden Studied Media Studies, Film Studies and Graphic Design. He went on to a degree in Media, Film and TV at Edge Hill University, then began his production company, KOG Films, working with the BBC on TV shows such as Our Girl.

Toby Thorpe Studied Media, Music Technology and History. He then went on to study Audio Engineering at Futureworks.

Rebecca Barratt Studied Media Studies, English Language and Literature and Dance. She went on to study Broadcast Journalism at Huddersfield University and now works as a Bulletin Editor for Bauer Media with Key 103 and KISS FM. Daniel Valentine Studied Media Production Level 3 full-time.

He then went on to secure an apprenticeship at Televideo Ltd. specialising in outside broadcasting and production.

Health and Social Care students have progressed on to university to study Nursing, Social Policy, Criminology and Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Social Work and Early Years. In English Literature you will explore the historical and cultural significance of literary works that have shaped our world. In English Language you will look at concepts and methods, the structure of language, grammar and speech over time. In Spanish, the world’s fourth most commonly spoken language, you will develop your ability to interact effectively in speech and writing.

Rosie Mahon Studied Performing Arts. She then went on to study at ALRA before joining the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, graduating this year in the US. Kudzai Mangombe Studied Drama, Law and Sociology before gaining a place at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts to study Acting.

The range of jobs has transformed, giving way to trainers, therapists, nutritionists, leaders, coaches, psychologists, counsellors, nurses, as well as business, law, management and advertising.

Public Services careers are demanding and crucial to society. Careers cover healthcare, law enforcement, social care and education professions. These include paramedics, police and fire services, armed forces, social workers and teachers.

Leon Anderson Studied Level 2 and Level 3 Public Services.

He will now progress on to study Policing at Edge Hill University.

Indya Bruce Studies Level 3 Sport full-time. She plays football outside of college and has had a major role in fundraising. She will now go on to study Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Chester.

Emma Pritchard Studied PE, Applied Science and Graphic Design. This September she begins a degree in Sports Development and Management at Edge Hill University.
