TRANSITION FOR SEPTEMBER 2024
A GUIDE FOR PARENTS/CARERS
We understand that leaving your primary school, to join your new family at Alsop, can be worrying but we will be with you every step of the way to make it as easy as possible for you.

ALSOP HIGH SCHOOL
WELCOME:
SAFEGUARDING:

Safeguarding relates to many areas of life at Alsop including children’s physical health and safety, mental health issues, attendance, managing medical conditions, internet safety, substance misuse, bullying, the dangers of radicalisation, child sexual exploitation, gang culture, FGM, neglect, domestic violence, forced marriages, sex and relationships education, British Values and road safety among other issues.
Dear parents and carers,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Alsop High school. Congratulations on securing a place at Alsop High school.
At Alsop High we feel it is really important to work with our parents and with the high environment that allows children to be aware of the risks they may face and how to respond to them safely.
We are delighted you will be joining the Alsop "family" and entrusting us with the responsibility of supporting your child, and watching them grow, for the next seven years. This guide is designed to help you learn as much as possible about us so that we can work together, in partnership, to ensure your child has the best possible chance of success. This is obviously a daunting transition, leaving behind the primary school "gate" but we will help your child through it.
We hope that our school curriculum gives children opportunities to explore many of these issues in a safe situation - through PSHCE, RSE, outside visitors, dedicated topic time and as key learning points arise in subjects such as science so that we can equip our children with the knowledge, understanding and the right tools to make safe choices.
Our mission is "Achieving Excellence Together," and this embodies our commitment to continuous improvement. We strive for 1% better every day in everything we do, and we will need your help and support with this. We will communicate regularly with you along this journey, mainly through our Bromcom "MyChildAtSchool" app and we will ask you to download and use this regularly and also communicate with us regularly.
Our work each day is based on our 3 key values:
Ambition: We have unapologetically high expectations for every child in our care and are looking to secure an amazing destination for each of them.
Respect: We passionately believe in creating successful adults of the future and so we underpin everything we do with a culture of kindness and compassion.
Community: We exist to serve our community and we can only be successful by forming an unbreakable team of students, staff, parents and the wider Walton community.
At Alsop, we are dedicated to creating lasting memories and remarkable experiences for your children. While academic excellence is our goal, we also focus on nurturing young individuals ready to make their mark on the world.
Our staff are committed to treating every student with the same care and dedication they would their own children. With my own children, I am honest, unapologetic about asking them to work hard and I always ask for more from them. I believe children become what we expect them to be, so we must encourage them to aim high. One of my favourite quotes is “children’s learning is not a rehearsal; they never get a second chance.” This philosophy guides my commitment to creating an environment where every child is encouraged to aim high and achieve their best. I take the responsibility for caring for your children incredibly seriously and I look forward to getting to know them.
We are a warm-strict school with a wonderful environment, excellent facilities for learning, committed and passionate staff and amazing students, The cohort of 2024 will make a strong start in September I am sure, and I look forward to meeting everyone,
Take care,
James Kerfoot
