NPQ Update We have just been informed by the DfE that there will be no more NPQ scholarship funding under the existing contracts.

However, through our alliance with the Outstanding Leaders Partnership, school leaders are still able to access a funded route into the National Professional Qualifications for Middle and Senior Leadership (NPQML & NPQSL).

Our NPQML and NPQSL programmes have been mapped to a Level 5 Apprenticeship standard, meaning that colleagues are able to utilise Apprenticeship Levy funding to complete the awards.

OLP are the only provider offering a funded route to NPQ for this Spring.

The programmes are funded by the Apprenticeship Levy that can be drawn down through the Local Authority, at trust level, or through the ESFA’s coinvestment scheme dependent upon your school size and/or type. OLP have a team of apprenticeship advisors on hand to support access to funding and candidates wishing to enrol.

Would you describe your school or local community as being areas of high conflict? Do children need support with dealing with conflict, restorative actions and regulating their emotions?

We have been offered a fantastic opportunity for 6 schools across the Archdiocese to work closely with the Warrington peace centre on a programme covering all staff trauma awareness training, key stages 1 and 2 programmes for children, family and staff support and a bespoke year 6 programme for children in year 6 experiencing challenges at the moment.

Promoting Excellence: New Resources and Toolkits for Schools – ALPSIT deal available.

Peter Rushton (former Carmel College Principal) and his team have created some new Ethical Leadership resources. They have been designed to enable Senior Leaders, Governors and Trustees to reflect on the current situation and to think strategically and prepare for the future.

They consist of 4 resource booklets, each with an additional toolkit: 1. New Beginnings and Re-engagement + Great Governance 2. Ethical leadership + Leading in Tough Times 3. Wellbeing + Resilience 4. Sustaining Success + Growing Your Own Talent All the materials are based on research-based evidence and can be downloaded from the accompanying encrypted memory stick. This means they can be used on-line or as paper copies.

These resources, which include reference material, exercises, tasks, reflections, and case studies will allow schools to tailor and deliver their own in-house CPD and engage with all stakeholders.

They are a positive vehicle for collaborative and interactive training in conjunction with cluster schools.

During these unprecedented times when there is more emphasis on virtual and blended learning these resources could prove invaluable.

Updates

Steam School & ALPSIT Update.

The first term at Steam School HQ has been super busy, meeting robots, aspiring astronauts, Space Camp USA, NASA partner, ICL Dover and the makers of Star Wars, Industrial Light and Magic.

Steam School are delighted to be working with some fantastic ALPSIT schools.

St Joseph's Primary School: Congratulations to St Josephs' Primary School in Warrington, who set up their Steam School club in record time. Steam School have loved seeing your updates on Twitter. Becky Tomlinson, shared the following feedback for their termly newsletter: "We love STEAM school. The children look forward to it every Friday morning. They are all engaged and have even enjoyed completing missions at home too. They love writing their journals and seeing their points increase each time they complete a mission. As a school, we wanted to see more girls engaged with STEM and STEAM school has certainly done that. We have some super female entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers of the future! We share photos of our work on Twitter for the parents to see."

St Teresa's of Lisieux Big thanks to Craig Fenton, Chief Operating Officer for Google UK and Ireland for hosting a Q&A with St Teresa's of Lisieux this term. Originally they had planned to visit Google HQ, but lockdown made that an impossibility. The students asked some great questions!! Interactions like this are so important to shape children’s aspirations and future career pathways.

Host a Steam School Club at Your School!

Steam School is an award winning virtual club for future inventors and tech entrepreneurs. Steam School connect students to some of the biggest names in technology via our weekly school broadcasts. Previous guests have included Instagram, Pokemon Go, Fortnite and the makers of Star Wars, Industrial Light and Magic.

They host six missions every year, exploring real world science and futuristic technology. Learners can journey through each mission by participating in weekly broadcasts with STEAM experts and choose from 18 different challenges to complete as scientists, engineers, artists, digital makers and entrepreneurs.
