Lomeshaye Life Thank you all for your support during the year. Your children have once again had a wonderful time at Lomeshaye, improving their learning and social skills and showing that they really know how to Aspire-Believe-Achieve. We hope that all the families and friends of Lomeshaye have a wonderful summer, enjoy the time relaxing and having adventures, but most of all stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 3rd September, for the start of another exciting year. Friendship Bench—During the past few months, 4 groups of local women from diverse backgrounds have worked together to make ‘sit and chat’ benches. These included: Women Of Whitefield (WOW) from Lomeshaye Junior School and Whitefield Infant School, Women Inspiring Dialogue Everywhere (WIDE), Stoops, Higher Trapp and Stoneyholme groups from Burnley. These benches provide safe spaces in communities for dialogue to happen and help build bridges in the community, where our children can grow up respecting each other’s cultures and backgrounds. The project was funded by Near Neighbours and the benches were built and decorated by the groups named above with the help of Community Farm in Burnley. There are 3 “Sit and Chat” Benches placed at Stoneyholme, Scots Park in Burnley and The Pavilion at Victoria Park in Nelson. Sports at Lomeshaye— as you know the school works hard for the education of all children right to the very end of the year and we are proud to announce on this, the last day of term, we have been awarded the Silver Kite Mark for Sport—another fantastic achievement. Governor news— Sadly this week we have learned of the death of one of our very longstanding school governors, Mr Frank Leighton. Mr Leighton had been a school governor for approximately 20 years and was Vice Chair of the governing body. Unfortunately, this year he had suffered illness and regrettably passed away at home on Tuesday evening. Mr Leighton loved our school and was passionate about the work we did here and his local community. He will be greatly missed by all at Lomeshaye but we are thankful for the happy memories that he has left us all with.
