Reception Summer 2 Newsletter Dear Parents/Carers, We hope you have all had a lovely break over half term are ready for our final few weeks in Reception.

Over the final half term we will covering a range of things. We will be talking about the farm, the World Cup and Keeping Healthy. Below are some more details of the things we will be covering and looking out for this half term in each of our areas: Religious Education Good news – passing on the good news of Jesus.

Friends – friends of Jesus.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development Listening and explaining our actions Show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings Talk to the group about something they are interested in or have done Communication and Language (Speaking, Understanding & Listening) Listen to stories Accurately anticipating key events Respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions or actions Physical Development The children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.

Maths Development (Number & Shape, Space & Measure) Children count reliably with numbers from 1-20, place them in order and say which number is 1more/less than a given number.

Using quantities and objects, they add/subtract 2single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer.

Solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects to solve problems.

Literacy Development (Reading & Writing) Children read and understand simple sentences. T They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately.

They demonstrate an understanding when talking about what they have read.

Children use phonic knowledge to write words.

They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others.

Understanding the World Children talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members.

They talk about features of their own immediate environment.

Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools.

Expressive Arts and Design Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques.

Children represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

Dance Thursday – Miss Simpkin’s class Friday – Mrs Moran’s & Miss Connor’s class

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you that during the final half term, as part of the usual

transition for the Reception classes, there will be several changes to our daily routines, beginning at different times over the next few weeks. Our aim is to help the children to become familiar with the routines in Key Stage 1.

Week beginning Monday 2nd July The children will begin to play out in the Key Stage 1 playground for morning and afternoon break.

They will also gradually be playing in there for their lunch time play. They will still have the opportunity to play outside in the nursery area but we want them to become familiar with the other routines before September.

Week beginning Monday 9th July This is when the children will begin to line up before school starts in the Key Stage 1 playground.

Children and parents will no longer come into the classroom first thing in the morning but assemble in the Key Stage 1 playground from 8.45am. The children will then line up when the whistle is blown at 8.55am. All teachers will be outside at this time and when the whistle is blown your child will line up with their class in front of their teacher. We will then walk the children into the classroom to hang up their coats and bags. The home time routine will remain the same.

The children will also be getting a little game to take home (and keep at home) each Monday. It will be their ‘homework’ so please try and play these games with them.
