Lomeshaye Life It has been two weeks since our last newsletter and there is much good news to share and things to look forward to. Read on to find out more. We have had two brilliant weeks for attendance. Last week all classes met the school target leading us to a whole school attendance of 97.9%. This week our attendance is 96.9% for the whole school. This is great news and a fantastic achievement, lets see if we can keep it up until the holidays begin in two weeks time. Goodbye Mr. Roberts— today we have said “goodbye and good luck” to Mr. Roberts. Mr. Roberts has been a teaching assistant in Year 4 and our PE specialist TA in school for the last couple of years and he is moving on to a new challenge in his life, working for the National Health Service. We wish Mr. Roberts all the best for the future and hope that he has a great time in his new job. Year 4 Arithmetic Workshops— last week Year 4 classes hosted some excellent arithmetic workshops for parents. Family members were able to work with their children in class to learn about the ways we teach maths skills in school. The sessions were great and those parents that did attend enjoyed working with their child and learning about what they do in school. Sadly however, not many parents took advantage of the sessions and we hope that next time we have these workshops in school many more parents will attend. Rights Respecting Schools— Over the last two weeks the rights that we have been focusing on have been Article 1—everyone under 18 has the rights outlined in the UNCROC and Article 2—No child should be treated unfairly on any basis. If you want to find out more about our Rights Respecting Schools work ask your children or have a chat with Mr. Switzer. Year 4 Artist Visit— Local artist Edward Foster came to school last week to work with all of the Year 4 pupils to help develop their observational drawing skills. The children loved to work with Ed and created some stunning drawings in their sketch books.

SATS Week— SATs exams start on Monday for all pupils in Year 6. Please make sure your children rest and get early nights over the weekend. No Year 6 child should be absent during next week as these examinations are compulsory and only taken during this week across the whole country. Ramadan— We expect the holy month of Ramadan to begin around the 15th May. Please do not allow your children to fast if they are taking exams in school and be mindful of keeping the home a quiet place at night so that your children get enough sleep and rest so that they can perform well in school. All of the staff at Lomeshaye wish our families and community a peaceful Ramadan. The Great Plastic Pickup— Community Event on Sunday 13th May from 10-12 starting outside school. All equipment will be provided. Mon 14th—Thurs 117th May—Year 6 SATs Exams in school Fri 18th— Royal Wedding Picnic Lunch and Red, White and Blue Non-Uniform Day.
