Friday 12th January Wednesday Word – NEWSTART HAPPY NEW YEAR – A belated New Year’s message - Happy New Year to all our parents and children. We wish you a happy healthy and prosperous year for 2018. THIS WEEK – During Come and See we have started our new topic of Celebrations. Thank you to the parents who have sent in photographs of their celebrations over Christmas and new year. Please continue to send these in next week. The children have found out about Epiphany and how it is a celebration to recognise when the Three Kings eventually got to worship Jesus. We have worked together to plan a New Year party to welcome the children back to 2018. During Literacy we have been talking about our Christmas gifts and have been listening to and retelling the story of the Rainbow fish. Within our heads down activity the children have been writing about what they got for Christmas, thinking about the sounds they can hear in the words and writing the letters in response to these sounds. In Maths we have started our new topic on 2D shape. We have recapped names of shapes and have been looking at describing them. During the afternoon, we have been looking at the features of a fish and why they are important to the fish. They have also joined in with a Welcome back to school/ New Year party in the hall this afternoon. Throughout the week the children have the opportunity to make models of the toys that they got for Christmas. NEXT WEEK– During our Come and See sessions we will be thinking about how our Parish Family celebrate together at church. Within Literacy, we will be acting out and retelling the story of the rainbow fish in our own words. During our heads down activity, we will be focussing on writing the story of the Rainbow fish. In Maths, we will be using the language of sides and vertices to describe 2D shapes. During the afternoon sessions, we will be finding about the different creatures that live in the ocean with the rainbow fish and finding out about the environment in which they live. The children will be trying to sew and decorate their own rainbow fish. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Please continue to send in any photographs of any Celebrations that the children have been invited to. (ie birthdays, weddings, easter). Over the weekend we would like you to take your child on a shape hunt. They can look for 2D or 3D shapes. How many different shapes can you spot when you are out and about? What are shapes used for? What do the shapes look like? Where possible take photographs or complete pictures of these. You could also send in different shaped boxes that you have found, these will also help us with our models of churches. Please send any recorded homework into school so that we can add it to our maths wall. Thank you for your support with this homework.
