Autumn Term 2017
Dear parents, carers and students, May I take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for the New Year. I hope 2018 will bring you all peace and happiness. As the new Headteacher of Parklands High School, it is my pleasure to introduce this spring edition of our newsletter. I am immensely proud of our school, and this edition clearly shows how truly fantastic our students and staff are. Having worked at Parklands since 2009, it never ceases to amaze me how inspirational our school community can be. There has been a huge amount of work in the community and a large number of charity events in school to raise funds for Children In Need and Derian House to name just two well-deserving charities. And just before Christmas each form group donated a food Christmas hamper, which our pupils delivered to over forty families and aged people in the local community. These are typical events which highlight our sense of belonging and connection to not only Chorley but the national and international communities. My first term as Headteacher has seen plenty of memorable moments and I count myself as truly blessed to work at this school. Our incredible students live by our school motto: LEARN, RESPECT, ASPIRE, ACHIEVE. This summer’s GCSE results were an improvement on previous years, there is a greater sense of respect within school, and we continue to encourage all our students to aim high, be ambitious, and achieve what they never thought would be possible. However, we are not an exams factory, as society demands more than students with a string of good GCSE grades. Our holistic approach to education is key to our success as a school; we aim to provide a well-rounded education, to focus on skills such as resilience, time-management, independent learning, curiosity, tenacity, so that our inquisitive students are well prepared for the next stage in their education. We expect our students to leave us highly qualified but also able to work as part of a team, to empathise with and to support others, to listen, to challenge the status quo, and view the world as a global society to which we all have a connection and in which we all can make a positive contribution. I trust the contents of this newsletter will surprise and possibly amaze you. I believe it will inspire primary children to want to become part of the Parklands community, and I hope it shows what both students and staff can achieve when they work together.
