Term 1
Early Impressions of Montgomery/ Descriptive Detectives
In the first two weeks your son or daughter will write a piece entitled ‘Early Impressions of Montgomery.’ An assessment will take place in which your child will write a piece of narrative or descriptive writing. Homework will be set weekly. A core homework will take place on the week th commencing the 25 of September which will contribute towards their assessment grade.

Speak Up! Persuasive Writing Scheme.
We will begin the journey into Key Stage 3 by completing a piece of writing about our first impressions of Montgomery. There will be a strong emphasis on the technical accuracy of your child’s writing. They will develop their technical skills in the areas of spelling, punctuation and grammar; paragraphing using varied and clear topic sentences; sentence structure and variety of sentence types and vocabulary. During this first half term we will evaluate the areas within writing that your child needs to develop and enhance as we progress through the year. Later on we will delve into the fascinating realm of description and literary detection. Students will explore a number of different texts from different genres and eras, enhancing their understanding and use of inference. They will then complete the topic by completing a court room monologue in character, utilising all the conventions and inspiration their previous study has given them. This half term focuses on the studying of play scripts. Students will explore aspects of one or more of Shakespeare’s plays. Students will study the play(s) using active approaches, including rehearsal room techniques. Students will engage with plot, characters and themes through drama, discussion and ensemble tasks, developing a thorough working knowledge of the play(s). Students will also revisit the reading and writing of non-fiction texts during this This is a chance for the students to voice their opinions and release their inner orators. The students will take part in a series of exciting and engaging activities, designed to both expose them to some of the greatest persuasive speakers of all time and give them an opportunity to flaunt their persuasive talents to win over their classmates and teachers. What will they send to Room 101? Certainly not this term’s activities. Students will be taught how to utilise and identify persuasive techniques and how writer may use them to manipulate an audience. They will become accustomed to subject specific terminology in this area and give them confidence in analysing their effects.
There will be a reading assessment will take place during this half term based on their reading and understanding of the play(s). Students will be given an extract upon which to base their answer. Weekly homework will continue to be set throughout this unit.

A core homework will take place on the week th commencing the 8 of January which will contribute towards their assessment grade.
