Friday 8th December WEDNESDAY WORD – HOPE THIS WEEK – During RE we have listened to the Nativity story and have found out about the first Christmas. Within Literacy, we listened to a story called Santa’s Presents and we have been looking at words to describe the presents Santa brought. The children have also written their Christmas List. In Maths, we started our new topic on Subtraction. We have learned new vocabulary related to subtraction – take away, subtract, minus, less, left. During the afternoon, we have been focusing on our Christmas performance. Throughout the week the children have made and written their Christmas cards. Within Phonics we have continued to recap, all previously learned sounds and will be continuing to learn all phase 2 words so that they can read them on sight. Words we focussed on include is, it, in, on, at, as, am, an, and, I, no, go, to, the, into. The children have been working on developing their confidence in using phase 2 sounds when chopping and blending to read words and when segmenting to write words. We have also been reading and writing simple sentences, which include these sounds. NEXT WEEK – During RE we will be continuing to look at the Nativity story and the children will be creating pictures to represent the story and talk about what they can remember about the events that happened. Within Literacy, we will be listening to a story called Santa’s New Outfit. The children will be writing about their favourite outfit. In Maths, we will be continuing with our work on Subtraction. During the afternoon, we will be focusing on our Christmas performance. Throughout the week the children will also be making our calendars for the New Year. The children will be going on their visit to see Father Christmas. Within Phonics we will be continuing to recap, all previously learned sounds and will be continuing to learn all phase 2 words so that they can read them on sight. We are also sending home a handwriting sheet for the children to practise forming s, a, t and p. Please send completed sheets back into school. CHRISTMAS VISIT TO SANTA –The children will be going to see Father Christmas on Monday morning. If you have not returned the £4 donation then your child will not be able to take part in this visit. COLD WEATHER – Please ensure that you have written your child’s name on hats, scarves and gloves so that we can easily match them to the right child and avoid any confusion CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCE – Thank you to all the parents who have sent in their child’s costume.
