Lomeshaye Life All of the pupils in school have had another exciting week of learning at Lomeshaye. We have had wonderful visits and visitors with different schools as well as lots of fun with reading. Why not read on to find out all about it? This week our attendance is 96.5% for the whole school. A number of pupils in 3 Oak, 3 Maple and 6 Elder have been off ill this week—remember you can still come to school with a cough, cold or tummy ache. Please make sure your child is in school every day and that you are not taking holidays during school time as this seriously affects your child’s learning and progress. Mission Christmas— Thank you to all families that have donated gifts for the Rock FM Christmas appeal. There are still a few days left to donate if you would like to help out a local young person in the local community. Anyone who wishes to get a Christmas toy over the weekend has got just enough time as all gifts will be collected and taken to a distribution centre on Monday 11th December. Everyone’s a Reader Afternoon— On Monday afternoon we tried something different in school. It was an afternoon where everyone in school was given time specifically for reading for pleasure. We try our best to encourage all children to enjoy books and reading and having an afternoon of fun with books was something that we feel was very successful. Fantastic Book Awards on Tour— This year we are taking part in the Fantastic Book Awards, this is a special Lancashire event where school children read 6 books and then vote on the best to be recommended for a prize. Our school was visited this week by the Fantastic Book Awards Tour Bus and children in Year 5 got to take part in fun activities. The children in our Fantastic Book Awards club also had a great time this week making “fake cakes” related to the books that they have been reading this half term. Have a look at what they made.
Year 3 Visit to Whitefield—On Monday our Year 3 pupils and staff were invited to Whitefield Infant School to watch their amazing Winter Performance. The children really enjoyed going back to their old school and joining the celebrations there. The pupils involved in the performance from Whitefield were wonderful and a great time was had by everyone. Year 3 Visit by Park Primary— On Tuesday we welcomed Park Primary School pupils to Lomeshaye. They came to visit our Year 3 pupils so that they could play and learn together. The children have started to make some lovely friendships and to also learn about each other. We will be visiting their Primary School in the new year to complete some more work together, Lollipop Person Job Vacancy— Our current lollipop person is leaving on Friday 22nd December to take a new job closer to home. This means that there is a job vacancy available for helping children to cross Carr Road and Norfolk Street before and after school. If you are interested in this vacancy please go to Lancashire County Council’s website and search for job vacancies to apply for the post.
