Friday 1st December 2017 Our News! Thank you to all of the parents & carers who came to the meeting about Physical Development. We will put the information on the class page of the school website for you, along with ideas of how you can help with physical development at home. The children have enjoyed the nursery rhyme topic! They are able to recall their favourite nursery rhymes and have enjoyed acting them out as they sing them. They have investigated which would be the best material to protect Humpty Dumpty from his fall and explored how to make a see-saw for See-saw Marjorie Daw. Outside the children have enjoyed making Incy Wincy spider travel down the spout, built walls for Humpty and a well for Jack and Jill. The children are now able to hear rhyming words and can continue a rhyming string of words of their own. Our super writing has meant that we can write our own rhyming words and some of us have helped to create different versions of the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. In the malleable area the children have enjoyed singing the counting rhyme 5 currant buns, using their funky fingers to make the buns and then sing and act out the rhyme together. This week they have also been singing the nursery rhyme Pat-a-cake and used different cutters and tools to make their cakes. In mathematics the children are now confident at naming 2D and 3D shapes and enjoy looking for reallife examples of them, as well as describing some of their properties. This week, we have been finding one more and one less than a collection of objects or a given number. Most of us can confidently say one more, but most of us still need further practise of finding one less. We will continue working on this and counting backwards will also help us to get better at this. We have all done very well with learning our sounds and tricky words in phonics and are getting better at blending the sounds together to read words. Please keep learning any sounds or tricky words that they are unsure of and keep putting the sounds together and practise blending them. We are all trying really hard to learn how to write each new letter ‘cursively’ with the joins in and out! Remember each letter starts with a flick in, on the line, and a flick out! We now need to make sure we form them correctly in our independent writing. Our Christmas performance is coming along nicely. The children have been practising their actions and words to the songs. This week we have been practising on the stage using our big voices. Please can we have all costumes in school by Thursday 7th December please, ready for our dress rehearsal? Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns.

Our next newsletter will be on Friday 15th December and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the last week and the new term! Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Lees s.lees@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
