Friday 1st December WEDNESDAY WORD – ADVENT THIS WEEK – During RE we have been finding out about Advent and how it is a time when we get ready for Christmas. We have found out about the Advent wreath and made our own out of paper. Within Literacy, we have been listening to poems about Jack Frost and thinking about words that describe him. The children wrote writing simple sentences to describe Jack Frost. In Maths, we completed our post –learning task on Addition and started our Pre-learning task for our next topic. During the afternoon, we conducted a simple investigation to help us find the best way to stop Jack Frost’s hand from melting. We have also been practising our Christmas Performance with the children- please ensure that you are practising their words with them. Within Phonics we have been recapping, all previously learned sounds and will be continuing to learn all phase 2 words so that they can read them on sight. Words will include is, it, in, on, at, as, am, an, and, I, no, go, to, the, into. The children have been working on developing their confidence in using phase 2 sounds when chopping and blending to read words and when segmenting to write words. We have also been writing simple sentences, which include these sounds. NEXT WEEK – During RE we will be starting to look at the Nativity story and finding out about the first Christmas. Within Literacy, we will be listening to a story called Presents, where we will again be thinking about describing words, following on from our learning this week. The children will be writing their Christmas List. In Maths, we will be starting our next mini topic on Subtraction. During the afternoon, we will be focusing on our Christmas performance. Throughout the week the children will also be making Christmas cards. Within Phonics we will be continuing to recap, all previously learned sounds and will be continuing to learn all phase 2 words so that they can read them on sight. Words will include is, it, in, on, at, as, am, an, and, I, no, go, to, the, into. The children will be working on developing their confidence in using phase 2 sounds when chopping and blending to read words and when segmenting to write words. We will also be writing simple sentences, which include these sounds. CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEKEND – Thank you to all who sent in their child’s homework. This weekend we would like you to keep going over the children’s words with the children to help prepare them for next week during our practice. If your child is not saying anything in the Christmas Performance we would like them to find out about the Advent wreath and what the candles on the Advent wreath mean. CHRISTMAS VISIT TO SANTA –Please remember to return the slip and donation into school if your child wishes to go. We will be unable to take children on this visit this time if the slip and money are not returned to school. Thank you. COLD WEATHER – Now that the weather is starting to get colder, you will be sending your child into school with hats, scarves and gloves. Please ensure that you have written their name somewhere on the garment so that we can easily match them to the right child and avoid any confusion
