Lomeshaye Life All of the pupils in school have had another exciting week of learning at Lomeshaye. We have had sporting events, archaeologist visits and very special assemblies to share some fantastic thinking and learning. If you read on you will find out lots more about this. This week our attendance is 96.9% for the whole school. This is not as good as the last two weeks and is very disappointing. Please make sure your child is in school every day and that you are not taking holidays during school time as this seriously affects your child’s learning and progress. Rights Respecting School—As you may be aware we are working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School. This means that we will be teaching children about their rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This will help children to understand more about themselves and other people and will help them to think about the behaviour and actions of themselves and others and how it affects their rights. Each half term we have a right that we focus on in school. This half term it has been Article 19, the right to be protected from harm and to be looked after and kept safe by governments, parents and carers. Pupil have worked on this theme in class and produced some great work which was shared in an assembly on Monday. You can see the fantastic work that the children have completed by scanning this code using a mobile phone, Ipad or tablet. Maya Archaeologist Visits Year 6— On Thursday pupils in Year 6 welcomed a very special visitor to school to help them with their learning about the Maya Civilisation. Dr. Diane Davies came to school to work with all Year 6 pupils to help them to find out more about the life of the Maya as she is an archaeologist who has studied the ancient civilisation in great depth. All of the children were very well behaved and incredibly interested in their learning with this amazing visitor and we hope that the experience will help to motivate them to find out even more during the rest of the half term. Sporting News—On Monday the 13th of November at Pendle Vale Collage, our netball team played four matches against different primary schools in the area. Our first match was against Gisburn Road and they drew with us. It was a slow start as it had been a while since our last completion. Although our first few matches were not as successful as we hoped, we persevered and managed to win our last two matches. All our team demonstrated sportsmanship and determination even though the temperature was very low. Well done to everyone! (Contributed by Issra - Year 6) Staffing in Year 3 and 4— There have been some staffing changes in some Year 3 and 4 classes in recent weeks. We would like to welcome a new TA to 3 Maple, Mrs Hall, who will be working alongside Mr. Switzer and Mr. Casey. Also in Year 4 the TAs in 4 Chestnut and 4 Sycamore have had a change around, so now Mrs. Aslam and Mr. Roberts will be working in 4 Chestnut and Mrs. Shah and Mrs. Sultana are with Mrs. Foote in 4 Sycamore.

Mission Christmas— This year we are going to be supporting Mission Christmas, a Rock FM charity providing under-privileged children in Lancashire with toys at Christmas. Please join our mission by buying one toy and donating it to school to be given away this year—no need to wrap it and it doesn’t need to be expensive. Other local schools are also going to help by donating their toys to our collection.
