NEWSTARTER OPEN MORNING - we are inviting any parents of children who are due to start school in September 2018 to come and look around St Oswald’s on Tuesday 28 th November at 9.30am. If you know anyone who has a child due to start school please pass this information to them. We accept pupils of all faiths or none. PHOTOGRAPHS - Final call! Tempest are collecting the photograph orders on Monday morning - any orders not passed into the office by then will have to be sent directly to Tempest. ASHTON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON - is on Friday 1st December 6.00-8.00pm. St Oswald’s choir will be singing in the marketplace. Please come along to support them. SING ALONG BINGO - we would like to invite the senior citizens of the parish to our Sing along and Bingo afternoon on Friday 1st December at 1.30pm in the School Hall. There will be Hamper prizes and free tea and mince pies. WIGAN CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION - was held this week – it was a very muddy course and the children did extremely well. Ben Trueman came 2 nd and our boys’ team came 2 nd overall. We are waiting to hear who has qualified to represent Wigan at the Greater Manchester Cross Country races. Well done to the whole team Ben Trueman, Sam Lloyd, Ben Franklin, Niall Spruce, Dylan Ratcliffe, Thomas Earley, Caitlin Harrison, Lydia Swindell, Leah Mullins, Mia Ellison, Libby Rutherford and Charlotte Ashcroft. Y5 TASTER DAY - Our Y5 pupils spent the day at St Edmund Arrowsmith on Wednesday as part of our programme of transition. They took part in lessons in RE, DT, PE and Computing. SPELLING WORKSHOP - thank you to the parents who attended this workshop on Thursday evening. Information is on the school website. STREETDANCE NORTHWEST - Well done to all our pupils who took part in this competition on 19 th November. The Under 8s team came 2 nd - Emelie Abbott, Matthew Winnard, Imogen Green, Ella Ballard, Lucy Fearnley and Eve Brearton. The Under 10s team also came 2 nd - Mischa Abbott, Emma Winnard, Phoebe Colquitt, Charlotte Trickett, Charlotte Dunne, Ella Graham and Grace Ewing. In Duets and Solos Matthew Winnard was 1st, Emelie Abbott 1st, Imogen Green 2nd, Ella Ballard 2nd and Eve Brearton was also placed. 1st ASHTON SCOUT GROUP - are holding their Christmas Brunch and Craft Fayre this Saturday 10.00am till 1.00pm at the Scout Hut on Liverpool Road. Admission is free. FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF THE PARISH - We are still collecting tinned or packet food items for our hampers. We are appealing for any soap items for hampers also. WIGAN AND LEIGH HOSPICE - We are selling Christmas toys on behalf of the Hospice. The toys are £2 each. This year there is a snowman, Father Christmas, penguin and Gingerbread man. SHOES - a reminder that pupils should wear shoes, not boots or trainers, in school. We are happy for pupils to walk to school in boots or trainers, but they need to change into school shoes for during the day. DATES FOR YOUR DIARY - tickets are now on sale for the Christmas discos which will be on the following dates: Years 1 and 2 Monday - 4th December - 4.30-5.30 pm. Years 3 and 4 Monday - 11th December - 4.30-6.00pm. Years 5 and 6 Monday - 18th December - 4.30-6.00pm. Tickets cost £3 and include a hot dog and a drink. There will be a tuck shop at each disco - please see the reverse of the newsletter for information. LOUIS WILLIAMS - Good luck to Louis who is currently appearing in a Christmas Carol at Bolton Octagon – break a leg!
