How to support your child’s learning at home Please ensure your child brings their reading book every day. It is also still important that your child is listened to regularly at home. So that we can monitor who is reading, please ensure there are at least three entries in the ‘Reading Record’, each week. The expectation for a Year 5 pupil is that they should know all of their times-tables (2x-12x), including decimals – multiplication and division, by the end of the academic year. Please ensure your child practices these for at least 15 minutes per day. For additional advice about how you can support your child further at home, please contact your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to help.
Homework Starting this half term, the way that homework is set in school will change. Children will now be given a project based activity which could last for multiple weeks. These projects will be an opportunity for your child to demonstrate their creativity, organisation skills and their independence, which builds on our aim to develop ‘powerful learners’. In addition to the project based homework, there will be compulsory weekly homework which consists of daily reading for 15 minutes, daily times tables practice – which could be completed using our new online times table system known as times tables rockstars, and weekly spellings.
Reminder Please check and sign your child’s journal each week to see any important messages that could be inside. Your child’s new targets, along with an overview of the topics being covered this half term, can also be found in the home school journal.
Make sure you know your targets and are constantly striving to achieve them.
