Friday 10th November WEDNESDAY WORD – WISDOM IN NOVEMBER WE REMEMBER

THIS WEEK – During RE we have completed our end of topic celebration for Welcome and have been recalling all that we know about Baptism and how it means we have been welcomed into the church family. Within Literacy we have listened to the story of ‘Can’t you Sleep little Bear?’ We sequenced pictures from the story and retold the story in our own words. The children tried writing a caption for a picture from the story. In Maths, we completed our post learning task on ordering numbers and found out what the children know about addition, ready to start our new topic next week. During the afternoon, we will be thinking about all the different sources of light that we have and why light is important. The children will be making lanterns or simple mobiles to help little bear to sleep. Within Phonics we will be recapping all previously learned sounds and working with the sounds c and k and learning the words I and to. Within Phonics we have been recapping all previously learned sounds and words and have introduced the children to the sounds m, d, g and o. We have also taken part in an assembly about Remembrance and participated in a 2 minutes silence. The children have made a poppy to help them remember the soldiers that died in the war. NEXT WEEK – During RE we will be finding out about another faith – Judaism and will be focusing on Hanukkah. Within Literacy we will be listening to the story of ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear’ We will be thinking about the doing words within the story and having a go at making up our own stories using the same structure within the small world area. In Maths, we will be starting our new topic on addition. The children will be introduced to what addition is and the different vocabulary we use when talking about addition. During the afternoon, we will be conducting a simple investigation to help us find out how Polar Bears keep warm when they are on the ice and making simple representations of polar bears using paper. We will also be giving out our parts to the Christmas performance and starting to practise this with the children. In Phonics we will be recapping, all previously learned sounds and working with the sounds ck, and e and learning the words to, no and go. CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEKEND – Thank you to the parents who sent in examples of where we find numbers in our everyday life. This week we are asking you to find out a simple fact about Judaism and Hanukkah or to help your child to think of a question that they would like to ask about Judaism. Please send these facts or questions into school on Monday so that we can use them within our topic next week during our Come and See sessions PUDSEY BEAR DAY 17th NOVEMBER –CHILDREN IN NEED Next week we will be holding a Spotty day to help Pudsy Bear to raise money for children who are less fortunate than we are.
