Governor Pen Portraits Mr Richard Prunetti – Parent Governor (Appointed by parents of the school, October 2015 – September 2019).

My name is Richard Prunetti; I am a Parent Governor at Bishop Martin. I have had a successful career as a teacher specialising in performing arts, drama and English as a second language. I am currently the proud single parent of two children attending Bishop Martin and one who has now moved on to high school after gaining a very solid foundation at our school.

I hope to put my skills and experience to good use as a member of the Board of Governors and to learn a lot more in the process. I enjoy new challenges and I am committed to helping the school and its students to continue on an already successful journey.

Mr James Greenlees – Parent Governor (Appointed by parents July 2016 – July 2020).

My name is James Greenlees I am your new Parent Governor. I am a father of seven children; all but one has attended Bishop Martin School so you could say I have a long history with the school of nearly seventeen years. Two of my children still attend Bishop Martin, both currently in the Infants and all have said how they enjoyed their time or still enjoy the School.

I am currently also a volunteer for the local Scouts Association and have been part of the executive committee. For the last year or so I have also been assisting in leading the Beaver troop.

I am looking forward to working closely with the Governors and School and to ensure that Bishop Martin remains a great school.

Beryl Trainor – Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool, April 2013 – March 2017).

Vice-chair of Governors Hi my name is Beryl Trainor, I am Vice Chair of Governors at Bishop Martin school. I am a member of the congregation at Christ the Servant Church. I have been a Governor at the school for the past year, but I have been a Governor at another local school for over 20 years.

I am a teacher in a school in Liverpool. I am married with two grown up sons and two grandsons. I live in the Skelmersdale area and have always been keen to ensure that the children of Skelmersdale get the education that they deserve.

I am a foundation Governor which means that I have been selected through the Church and I was very happy to join the Governing body of an inspirational school that is moving onwards and upwards.

Mrs Irene Jones – Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool, September 2016 – September 2020).

My name is Irene Jones and I have been a Governor at Bishop Martin since 1972 when the first of my two sons started at the school. During my time as a Governor, I have been both Foundation and Local Authority representative as the needs of the Governing Body have evolved. My working life has been spent in school administration in both the financial and educational areas of school life. Bishop Martin gives its pupils a safe and secure place to grow into the future of our town and I feel privileged to be able to continue supporting both the staff and pupils of our great school.

Mr Lee Baines – Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool, June 2016 – June 2020).

My name is Lee Baines and I am a Foundation Governor here at Bishop Martin Church of England Primary School. My family has a long and proud association with Bishop Martin, with my two daughters being the latest members of the family to attend the school.

I have been a Governor for 4 years, and I am very proud of the work all staff and students do to create an inspiring and enjoyable learning environment at the school.

I am dedicated to ensuring that students at Bishop Martin have the best possible chances in life, and that each and every child is helped to flourish through the guidance, wisdom and teaching from our fabulous staff.

I am married, and have lived and worked in Skelmersdale for the past 15 years. I am currently Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and Head of Key Stage 4 at Hope High School, and have been in the teaching profession since 2005, where my specialism is English.

Mr Richard Kershaw – Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool, September 2016 – September 2020).

I am currently in my eleventh year as head teacher of a neighbouring primary. Prior to this post, I have served as head teacher of two other Lancashire primary schools.

I am also a member of the SHARES sports committee and the North West SCITT steering committee.

Mrs Susan Hewitt – Staff Governor (Appointed by Bishop Martin CE Primary, October 15 – October 2019).

I am Mrs Hewitt the Early Years Foundation Stage Leader at Bishop Martin. I am entering my eighth year of teaching (fourth at Bishop Martin) and have taught in both nursery and reception. I am responsible for the smooth running of our Early Years, overseeing both nursery and reception classes. I line manage the Early Years teaching assistants and nursery class teacher. I specialised in Early Years during my teaching degree and hold a Masters Certificate in Education. I have worked with the North West SCITT programme undertaking the role of expert practitioner, programme mentor and class mentor. I am also the PSHE co-ordinator and a member of Senior Leadership Team.

Cllr Liz savage – Local Authority Governor (Appointed by LCC, September 2016 – September 2020).

Mrs Ann Gray – Head Teacher (Appointed, September 2007 – August 2019).

As the head teacher I am an ex-officio member of the Governing body and attend all Governor meetings. I feel we are so blessed at Bishop Martin to have such a hard working and enthusiastic team of Governors who are passionate about the school, for whom every child matters and who are committed to ensuring our children are nurtured and given every opportunity to achieve their potential at school and in the wider world.

Prior to coming to Skelmersdale I worked in schools in Knowsley and Liverpool and I have served on three other Governing bodies. As head I maintain an overview of all aspects of school life and work but I have specific responsibility for child protection and safeguarding in my role as DSL (Designated Senior Leader) I am also a director of the Liverpool Educational Diocesan Trust and of SHARES Lancashire limited. I am so proud to be the head of Bishop Martin and feel privileged to work with a talented and inspirational team of teachers and support staff.

Best of all I am surrounded every day by our wonderful children. I was a Mum before I was a teacher and my guiding vision for our school is that it should be the one I wish my own son and daughter could have gone to. From the start of my student days and throughout my teaching career my personal philosophy has always been: There are only two lasting bequests we can give our children, one is roots and the other is wings.

Mr Ian McDonald – Observer member I am Mr McDonald and I'm the Deputy Headteacher at Bishop Martin. I am in my sixth year now at the school and have loved every minute! I am married with two children and have lived in Skelmersdale my entire life. It is a privilege to serve this community and its’ families.

As well as my Deputy Headship duties, I lead assessment and curriculum management across the school and retain oversight of school data analysis. I am the Backup DSL (Designated Senior Lead) in Mrs Gray’s absence. I manage the school Support Staff and I am the Key Stage 2 team leader. My other duties include: leading History, running both the School Council and Worship Groups to ensure an effective Pupil Voice in the school, leading Collective Worship and working as one of the schools’ EVC’s (Educational Visit Coordinators).

Miss Kerry Harvey – Observer member I am Miss Harvey and I began my Assistant Headteacher role at Bishop Martin in September 2011. Prior to this, I worked in another local school for ten years. As Assistant Headteacher I manage the KS1 department and work closely with other senior leaders to ensure that the children of Bishop Martin have the best experiences that we can provide.

My degree is in English and I have been subject leader for English for the majority of

my teaching career. I have a love of books and have been blessed with the responsibility of developing and maintaining our two school libraries!

I am the Inclusion Manager for the whole school. I manage the provision for our learners with Special Educational Needs, our Looked After Children and those who are learning English as an Additional Language. I am also responsible for monitoring the provision and progress of those children who are in receipt of Pupil Premium funding.

I am a 'people person' and I am fortunate to work with such a great group of committed and dedicated staff at Bishop Martin.

Dave Fendle - Foundation Governor (Appointed by Dioceses of Liverpool, August 2014 – August 2018) Chair of Governors My name is Dave Fendle and I am Chair of Governors here at Bishop Martin Church of England Primary School. I am privileged to hold this position and I am totally committed to ensuring that our children get the best education and pastoral care possible to enable them to grow and realise their full potential. I am very proud of the children and how they are developing into outstanding citizens and feel blessed to have such a great staff who are highly committed and very enthusiastic.

I have been a governor now for nearly 10 years taking over the role as Chair in 2014.

I have worked in the private business sector as a senior manager for 23 years and since 2010 I have worked as a School Business Manager in Schools, as well as training School Business Managers for the National College of Teaching and Leadership.

I am married and have lived locally in Skelmersdale for over 25 years and have many family ties with the school; my son, daughter, nieces, nephews and now granddaughter have all been to Bishop Martin. I am a regular attendee at the Church across the road from the School, Christ the servant and play an active role there and in our community.

Resignations 2016/2017 Mrs Tracy Shuttleworth – Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool, September 2015 – July 2019). Stepped down 31st August 2017.

My name is Tracy Anne Shuttleworth and I have been a Foundation Governor for 8 Years. I am fully committed to making sure that the governors are doing their best to achieve the best outcomes for the children, staff and the community. I am a teaching assistant at a primary school in Skelmersdale, so I am fully aware of the demands on the children and staff. I am an officer at Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade and help to run the monthly disco. I also take part in the annual Panto performed in February half term. I have two daughters who both went to Bishop Martin.

Rev. Dawn Harrison - Foundation Governor (Appointed by Diocese of Liverpool September 2015 – August 2018). Stepped down 12th December 2016.

Hi I am Rev Dawn, I am both a Schools Minster and a Team Vicar. Which means you get to see me around school quite a bit and I am the Vicar at Christ the Servant Church. I am also soon to be on the Governors for St Thomas the Martyr School. I love spending time outside, and I am happiest walking in the Lake District.
