Lomeshaye Life Well what a wonderful half term we have had at Lomeshaye. Everyone is now very settled in their new classes and there has been some outstanding learning taking place over the last 7 weeks. I am sure that staff and pupils will enjoy a little rest next week and find fun things to do in the time that they have got. Our attendance remained high for the WHOLE HALF TERM, which is an amazing achievement. This weeks whole school figure is 97.6% , with two classes also having 100%. Let’s see this continue when we return to school on 7th November. Thank You Parents—for your attendance at our Parents Evening this week. We hope that you found your meeting with the class teacher very useful and that you feel informed about how your child is performing in school and ways you can help them at home too. Netball Team News— On the 16th October, at Pendle Vale College, we had our first netball tournament in the Sapphire League. Our team, who are very new, were all a little bit nervous but very excited too! The first match was against Gisburn Road and they were a good team. It was a slow start to the match and the final result was a draw. We learnt from our slow start that we had to defend better, work as a team and use all our players more effectively. This resulted in us winning our next four matches! We all had fun and are hoping to have the same result next time. (Reporter: Issra Ashfaq, 6 Rowan) Park Primary Meeting— This week all of our Year 3 pupils met some new friends from Park Primary School in Colne. The children that they met are going to work with us on a special “Twinning Project” that is supported by Building Bridges in Nelson. The project will span this term and next and will see the children meeting at least two more times to work together and find out more about each other. A special “Well Done” must also go to our pupils on their fantastic behaviour while they were out of school. Harvest— I would like to say a huge “Thank You” to all of our pupils and families that contributed food to our Harvest Collection this year. There was so much donated that we were able to help two different groups of people this time. The 14 elderly residents of Imperial Gardens had their parcels delivered yesterday and were so grateful of the kindness that has been shown to them. We have also been able to help the homeless charity “Safespace” that are based in Nelson, which is fantastic. In total 620 food items were donated to school—incredible! Learning Leaves Performance—On Thursday afternoon pupils in our Learning Leaves group put on a Choctasitc performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for parents and friends . The children have worked so hard all half term to develop their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills around the theme of Roald Dahl and were very keen to perform the wonderful story. Well done Learning Leaves, you were great! Always Children Reward—Pupils who have met and exceeded our behaviour expectations all half term were rewarded on Friday afternoon with special activities that they chose to take part in for 2 hours. Children that always do the right thing are known in school as Always Children and get rewarded for their efforts with behaviour. Why not ask your child if they had an always reward this afternoon. Firework Safety—Over the holiday some people will be celebrating Bonfire Night, please keep your children safe and do not allow them to touch or hold fireworks. Make sure you know where your child is and what they are doing if they go out to play with friends. We don’t want any accidents happening. Canal Litter Pick— For anyone that is keen to look after the environment, why not join the litter pick taking place from Lomeshaye Road Bridge to Leeds Road Bridge TOMORROW from 10am –12, Mr. Nuttall will be there and would like to see you too.
