Welcome to Year One! I hope you all had a lovely summer and I look forward to working with you to ensure your child has a happy and successful year.
Curriculum Our main theme for this half term is: ‘Me, Myself and I’, where we will be covering elements of PHSE, Science and RE. In English we will be looking at stories by the same author, the children particularly enjoy stories by Julia Donaldson. In Maths we will be focusing on number and place value to develop strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. In R.E we are looking at the story of creation and saying thank you to God for our wonderful world. PE
Support This year we are lucky to have Mrs Harrison and Mrs Hulme with us in our class this year. We also have support from Mrs Firth who will be teaching Music and Art.
Our PE days this half term will be a Monday and Wednesday, one session each week will be taught by a specialist coach. Please can you make sure your child has their PE kit every day, parents must provide a note/speak to the teacher if your child is unable to take part in PE.
Phonics
Reading
Phonics is an important aspect of the children’s learning, particularly in year one! Children will have phonics each morning with different members of staff in KS1 that begins at 9.20.
We encourage all children to continue their love of reading at home. Your child will read each week independently with an adult in school, as well as a group reading session for half an hour. It is very important that each child brings their reading record and school reading book each day so that we can keep you informed of your child’s progress in reading.
