Friday 20th October WEDNESDAY WORD – GRATITUDE THIS WEEK – Within RE we have continued to learn about baptism and have looked at some of the artefacts and objects related to baptism. During Literacy, we have been finding out about Autumn and working with Autumn poems. The children have had a go at writing a caption about what they know about Autumn. In maths, we have started our work on ordering numbers to 10. We have been ordering numbers forwards and backwards and also ordering a selected group of numbers. During the afternoon, we have been practising our assembly, learning our words and sing the songs and poems. Within phonics, we have been recapping s, a, t and p and introduced the children to i and n along with the words a, and, as, at, is and it. CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEKEND – Thank you for all your help in providing the baptismal artefacts and photographs. Over the half term week we are asking the children to collect some AUTUMN TREASURE. After half term we will be creating some natural pieces of art. When you are out and about over the following week, please could you look out for and collect any items related to autumn like autumn coloured leaves, twigs, sticks, conkers, acorns, sycamore helicopters etc and bring them into school for the children to use and explore. Thank you for your support as always. AFTER HALF TERM – During RE, we will be completing a topic assessment to see what the children know about Baptism. Within Literacy, we will be listening to poems related to Bonfire night and the children will be having a go at writing about what they have done over the half term holiday. In Maths, we will ordering numbers - selected and random numbers. During the afternoon, we will be thinking about Bonfire night and finding out about why we celebrate it. We will be looking at short video clips to find out more about it. We will be creating a variety of art work related to this theme. Within Phonics we will be recapping all previously learned sounds and working with the sounds m and d. HARVEST ASSEMBLY – Thank you to all of those who attended, we hope that you enjoyed it. We are very proud of the children and the way they performed in their very first school assembly. Thank you for all your support in helping the children learn their words. TINS FOR HARVEST – Harvest is a time for sharing, caring and giving. Every year we ask our parents to donate a tin or packet of food during harvest time. These tins and packets are then used to make hampers for the elderly citizens of our community. Thank you to the parents who have very kindly donated tins. If you still wish to donate please send in the tins to class and we will make a display of these. WIGAN OBSERVER FIRST DAYS PHOTOGRAPHS – The Wigan Observer photographer came to school on Wednesday and took a class picture. The photographs will appear in the Wigan Observer in the next few weeks. Keep a look out for them. You will have the opportunity to purchase a photograph if you wish by contacting The Wigan Observer.
