Our News! Thank you to all of the parents who came to the open afternoon to find out how we learn in the Ducklings class, especially with our mathematics. For the last few weeks we have enjoyed learning all about harvest and autumn. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in vegetables for us to use in our different activities. We have had great fun in mathematics using the vegetables to count with, place in order of size and even find out which is the heaviest and lightest. We put the vegetables in shopping bags and used our arms to be our human weighing scales! We have also been on the hunt for lots of autumn treasures such as acorns, leaves and twigs. We then practised counting them and matching to the correct numeral. In Literacy we loved reading the traditional tales of the Little Red Hen and The Enormous Turnip. We now know these stories so well, that we can retell the stories using the familiar phrases. We have enjoyed using masks and puppets to tell the stories too. Our writing skills are really coming on as well! We have been writing what characters from the stories might be saying in their speech bubbles. The children have loved using oil pastels to make lovely observational sketches of the autumn vegetables and fruit. We have then used some of our senses to help us think of words to describe them. In the creative areas we have been using our hands to explore mixing colours. We have made some lovely autumnal colours and our handprints will make the leaves on a lovely autumn tree. Outside we have been threading wool through leaves and making leaf rubbings. We have also developed our fine motor skills by using hammers to see how many nails we could hammer into the pumpkins. We have enjoyed learning and singing some autumn songs and some songs about the Little Red Hen and The Enormous Turnip! What a busy few weeks! We are definitely ready for a rest!
