Dear Parents and Children Welcome back to school. I hope you have had a really good break and have been able to come back to school refreshed and recharged.

Sad News It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of one our new nursery children, Angelo, whilst on holiday in Italy. Angelo is the younger brother of Diego who will be going into Year 4 on his return to school. Our thoughts, prayers and sincere condolences go to the Quirino family and friends at this very sad time.

We also sadly learned of the death of one of our cleaning staff members, Duca Alhino at the beginning of the holidays following a short illness. We have sent our prayers and condolences to the family. Her smiling face will be sadly missed by us all.

Please remember both families in your prayers.

New Children and staff Welcome to our new children that have started in Reception and across school.

They have had a good first day and settled in well. A special welcome also to Miss Dooley, Miss Hussey and Mr Blewitt who join our teaching staff – I am sure they will enjoy working with your lovely children.

Attendance and Punctuality Unfortunately, our attendance last year fell below the school’s target and will therefore be a priority this year. Attendance will be monitored carefully and parents of pupils causing concern will be invited to a meeting to discuss ways to

support attendance in school. At the end of each term, 100% attendance rewards will be reintroduced. Please note that lateness can also affect your child’s attendance mark.

Exceptional leave of absence In line with DFE guidelines, only exceptional leave requested in writing will be authorised – this will be discussed on a case by case basis and must be requested before being booked.

Parent Information Every year we investigate new ways of keeping parents informed on their child’s progress, achievements, behaviour etc. Over the holidays, we have been exploring a new management information system that will hopefully give parents secure access to this information via a password protected site. Currently the teachers are trialling the school functions along with some of the staff who are parents to pupils in school. If you would be interested in being part of a parent pilot group please let me know and I will contact you later this month. The management system records attendance and also gives an accurate view of lateness- these will be input when children arrive late via the school office. It is therefore extremely important that your child arrives at the correct entrance door before it closes at 8.55am.

Parking Please remember to park responsibly when dropping off and collecting your child.

If you have children in EYFS/Key stage 1 please remember that there are parking spaces in the church car park and you can enter the school site by the path that runs past nursery.

School Payments Due to the increase in pupils, it is important that parents pay for school meals, Breakfast and aftercare clubs whenever possible using the online service ‘School Gateway’. This is a secure site and will reduce the security risk of taking large amounts of money as well as reducing staff workload. Please speak to the school office staff who will help to set this up for you.
