Welcome to West Hill School

Welcome • My name is Miss Kathryn Jedd and I will be your son’s Head of Year for the next five years.

• It is a pleasure to welcome you and your son to West Hill

In “Loco Parentis” The Pastoral team will be here to look after your son. Like all good parents: • We will keep him safe • We will give him both academic and emotional support • We will help him establish positive and productive routines • We will treat him with the same care and respect we expect our own children to be treated

In “Loco Parentis” • …and, wherever necessary, we will be firm.

• We will also be the main link between home and school.

Mr O’Dowd – SLT • Mr O’Dowd is an Assistant Head Teacher and will be the senior member of staff linked to Year 7.

Mrs Connell • Mrs Connell is in charge of Emotional and behavioural Support and a highly valued member of the school team.

Expectations • We set extremely high expectations at West Hill School in standards of work, behaviour, integrity and respect.

Expectations - UNIFORM • All pupils must be smartly dressed with shirts tucked in, top buttons done up and ties neat.

• Black, polishable shoes must be worn – NO TRAINERS or PUMPS • Black coat - NO HOODIES

Expectations - HAIRCUTS We do not allow extreme haircuts: • No lines • No obvious steps • If shaved, no shorter than a 2 • No dyed hair • If hair is long it must be tied up.

Expectations - EQUIPMENT We expect all boys to come to school ready to learn. The full list is in the booklet but please ensure they have a bag containing: • A private reading book • Black pens • Pencils • Green pen • Ruler • These, and other items can be purchased in school at a minimal cost.

Expectations - PLANNERS School provides your son with his own personal planner in September. The planner must: • Be kept graffiti clean • Contain written descriptions of homework and the date the homework is due in, • Be checked and signed every week by a parent, • Be checked and signed every week by their Form Tutor.

Expectations - HOMEWORK All homework will be completed fully and handed in on time.

• If Homework becomes an issue we will contact you immediately.

• You can help by checking your son’s planner and making sure all homework is done.

• Homework Club is available.
